Description:

The kxmixer.exe process is an application that controls the kX Audio Driver. The kX Audio Driver is an independent Windows Driver Model (WDM) application, which includes setup files as well as driver system files. Creative Technology, Inc. manufactures this driver package for all EMU10K1 and EMU10K2-based soundcards including the SoundBlaster Live! Series. It is also utilized by E-mu Systems, Inc. for its E-mu Audio Production Studio (APS) card and Audigy series 1 and 2 audio cards.

Also a part of the kX Audio Driver package is the kX Mixer that acts as a Graphical User Interface (GUI). The kX Mixer software houses the kxmixer.exe application. It includes a DSP control panel, which allows editing, loading, patching, and unloading of custom DSP effects. A command-line utility is also included with the kxmixer.exe program, allowing direct access to many of the audio drivers internal functions.

Windows is provided with its own Windows Mixer functionality, but the kxmixer.exe program included with the driver package has many more powerful features. It supports wave recording and synch playback and allows master and record levels to be controlled. It also supports DirectSound effects with Reverb and Chorus loaded by default for MIDI synch compatibility. A Line-in slider has also been added to the kxmixer.exe application for compatibility with TV-card software.

The kxmixer.exe program includes full ASIO direct monitoring, AC3 Software Decoding, full control over the AC97 codec, and selectable digital output mode. It also supports saving, loading, and restoring of all mixer settings.

The kxmixer.exe program menu can be displayed by right-clicking the kX system tray icon typically found at the lower right corner of the desktop. Right clicking within the display area or any of the kX control applets can also access the menu.
