The keyhook.exe process can be used for two different applicationsthe SiS Keyboard Daemon and the Acer Launch Manager. Though these two applications are different, they still have similarities with regard to using the keyhook.exe file since both of them need it for keyboard use. As its name implies, the keyhook.exe process provide hooking capacity for the keyboard processing changes, thus enabling the use of hotkeys.

For Silicon Integrated Systems or SiS Keyboard Daemon, the keyhook.exe file is a system tray utility that was installed by the SiS video graphics array (VGA) cards driver. The process files function for this application is to enable the user to configure some of his or her keyboard function keys. With this application, users can dictate a key combination that will allow a specific function or performance. A very common function it creates is launching different programs like a word processor or an Internet browser.

Moreover, the keyhook.exe process is also used by the Sis Compatible Super VGA Keyboard Daemon, and it is referred to as SiS Windows KeyHook. Sometimes, this application is also referred to as the Sis graphic card application.

Also, the keyhook.exe process can be used for Acer multimedia keyboards. These special kinds of Acer keyboards have hotkey features, which permit users to extend the hardwares capabilities from its normal functions. Just like for SiS Keyboard Daemon, the keyhook.exe file allows the user to create special key combinations with his or her Acer multimedia keyboard. For example, key combinations can be used to call special multimedia applications with just a coupe of keyboard strokes and without reaching out for the mouse to click on the program icon.

The keyhook.exe process is only activated for the SiS Keyboard Daemon when the user needs to setup special key combinations. However, it is activated for Acer when the multimedia keyboards extended functions are in use. The user of Acer is given a choice to terminate this program, but with this option, using the special multimedia capabilities will also be terminated.
