Description:
The key.exe file is used to provide users with data pertaining to a specific key input occurrence. The user can type in or input as plenty of keys he desires. When the user opts not to use the key.exe application anymore, the user must press the letter q to exit the program. The key.exe application is used to test if certain keys in the keyboard are working properly.
The key.exe application runs in the DOS environment only. So when you are going to install the program, it will instruct you on how to install it properly in order for you to use and install the program. The instructions are written in the readme file included in the compressed file that you have downloaded for the key.exe file installer.
From the readme file, the user will be asked to create a boot-disk before he can run the key.exe file. A boot-disk can be created with the following Microsoft Windows operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows XP Professional and Home Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows 3.11, MS-DOS and Windows 3.1.
If the user types in a key in the key.exe application, the user will see this result: {KeyDown, RepeatCount, VirtualKeyCode, VirtualScanCode, Char, ControlKeyState, Character}. KeyDown states 1 if a key is being pushed down and, 0 if not. RepeatCount indicates the count that the key has been pressed. VirtualKeyCode states the virtual key codes that identify the particular key in a manner that is device independent. VirtualScanCode states the virtual scan code of the particular key that signifies the value that is device dependent created by the keyboard. Char states the decoded ASCII characters in hexadecimal. ControlKeyState states the status of control keys. Character displays the character or actual key that was pressed.
The key.exe application has the ability to analyze a keyboard that has a USB connector, 6-Pin DIN keyboard connector or 5-Pin Din keyboard
Connector. A keyboard that contains 6-Pin Din keyboard connectors is also known as PS/2 keyboards. For testing keyboards that have USB connections, the BIOS require support for USB keyboards so that it can be utilized in DOS.
