Description:

One of the most popular peer-to-peer file sharing applications is the KCeasy program implemented by the process kceasy.exe. KCeasy uses the file sharing system giFT as its back end foundation. A giFT P2P system takes advantage of plugins for it to support different kinds of file sharing networks.

KCeasy is specifically designed for computers running on Windows. The kceasy.exe file supports three specific types of file sharing networks, namely Gnutella, Ares, and OpenFT. When implemented on Gnutella network, the kceasy.exe file runs on the products Shareaza, Gnucleus, Lime Wire, Beashare and XoloX. All types of Ares applications such as Ares Galaxy and Warez P2P are also supported. The giFT Project, a group of software developers, also developed the OpenFT network with the sole intent of adding up to the shrinking market for P2P networks that can load the functions of the kceasy.exe program.

The process kceasy.exe is an open source file, meaning it maintains a source code that is freely distributable. Its advantage over other P2P file sharing applications is that it can be used even with very slow Internet connections using GPRS, 33 kb or 56kb modems. It is also lightweight and allows fast and easy downloads.

Given that the process kceasy.exe works as the Windows front end for the giFT file sharing system, it is integrated with all the major features unique to giFT designed to improve the overall usability of P2P networks. For one, the kceasy.exe file is capable of handling swarmed downloads (or downloading a single file from multiple peers simultaneously). It also makes use of a centralized and scriptable interface, which KCeasy users can easily understand and manipulate. The kceasy.exe file also has the ability to gain access to multiple networks and, to efficiently do this, takes advantage of giFTs bandwidth throttling feature (rate limiting, upload queues, etc.). The kceasy.exe file has a pluggable architecture that makes it portable, as it is lightweight.

When running on Windows XP SP2, the kceasy.exe file automatically implements the giFT Loader giFTl.exe that is responsible for the network connections. If a message appears that Windows has blocked the giFT Loader, users will have to modify the tcpip.sys driver using the patch made available by Microsoft on its Windows Update site.
