Description:

The functions of the Windows Connection Wizard are usually employed by the Internet Service Providers (ISP) as a tool for signing up customers and configuring their computers to access the Internet.

The process icwconn1.exe is a component of the Windows connection wizard. It executes an automatic configuration for the Internet Connection Wizard to enable users to set a connection on a new computer or use an existing Internet service account that they had on a previous computer.

Because the icwconn1.exe file is capable of restoring settings using its auto-configuration feature, it can help users to reconfigure Internet settings that have been corrupted. All the user needs to input is the user ID, password, and point of presence (POP) server. In custom versions of Internet Explorer, the user from a link from Setup can access the auto-configuration server. This link, represented by the icwsign.htm page, should be included as part of the IE custom package. Connection to the auto-configuration registration can only be done through this link.

The Internet Connection Wizard is different from the Network Connections Wizard in that the latter assists administrators or even authorized users to create just about any type of network connection. This includes Internet, incoming connection, dial-up connections, virtual private network (VPN) connections and direct connection. In contrast, the Internet Connection Wizard only assists users who want to connect to the Internet. The icwconn1.exe automatically displays the Internet connection wizard whenever a user clicks on any program for the first time that requires an Internet connection, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.
