The process file dkservice.exe is a process that allows the program Diskeeper to run at times specified by the user. The process file dkservice.exe is a process installed along with the Executive Software Diskeeper, a disk defragmenting utility, which is a popular replacement for the Windows Disk Defragmenter.
The process file dkservice.exe is one of three major components of the Diskeeper automatic defrag software. It is a Windows service that handles intercomponent communications, which means that without the process dkservice.exe the user interface and the defrag engine could become out of sync and may not be able to perform their actions in a coordinated manner. The Diskeeper application is also able to address external communications such as product updates and the task of communicating data reports to a Diskeeper Administrator.
The files diskeeper.msc and diskeeper.exe are two forms of the user interface that allows for the users configuration of the Diskeeper application. With the diskeeper.exe file, users can check on scheduled defragmentation tasks as well as to schedule new ones.
The Diskeeper itself scans three to five times faster than the default Disk Defragmenter. It also has a feature that excludes system files from defragmentation. Moreover, the Diskeeper can run automatically as a background task and would not require users to close all active applications.
Diskeeper is an American software company that was formerly known as Executive Software International Incorporated. Its current name was derived from its flagship product the Diskeeper. Other products include Sitekeeper and Undelete.
