Description:

The process defwatch.exe runs the DefWatch Wizard for the Norton Anti-virus software. More popularly known as the Virus Definition Daemon, the process file defwatch.exe was developed by Symantec Corporation, as an additional function of the Norton Antivirus or the Symantec Antivirus Client. This means that the defwatch.exe file is executed only when you have Symantecs Norton antivirus program in your Windows System.

What the process file defwatch.exe does is that it checks virus definitions for the Norton Antivirus program to make sure that the antivirus program installed on the computer is up to date for virus information. If the process file defwatch.exe file finds your software applications virus definitions out of date and without the new virus updates, it will prompt the downloading and installation of the latest virus definitions from the Symantec website automatically. In addition to its main task, the process file defwatch.exe also launches the Defwatch Wizard for the Norton Antivirus application, which is a program bundled with the mother application, Norton Antivirus that attempts to repair files quarantined from the computer system from previous system scans.

The defwatch.exe process file is an essential process to the Norton Antivirus application and is advised to be left running in the background.
