Description:

The file commander.exe is a part of IomegaWare, a software program that lets you perform various operations on your Jaz and Zip drive (portable storage devices). But note that only the IomegaWare version 2.0 has the file commander.exe (found with a start-up switch). The commander.exe process is used for using additional options for the said drives.

The IomegaWare software run by the commander.exe process is an application, due to the fact that it shows options in a window upon execution. The file commander.exe and the IomegaWare software program are not necessarily needed for the users Zip and Jaz drives, but users should use the commander.exe file for formatting (if necessary). Also, the file commander.exe is important when users perform the following actions: accessing and changing the password-protection program features, monitoring and checking Format Life and Disk Life status of the disks, changing the drives sleep time, and automatically ejecting the users Zip disks whenever Windows shut down.

Having the commander.exe process in the startup folder may not have any direct noticeable effects. It all depends on how the user configured the settings of the commander.exe program (which is only available by running another IomegaWare shortcut, found in the Start Menu, then Programs Menu under the IomegaWare tab).

Iomega, the company responsible for the IomegaWare software, is a known portable storage device and various media supplier. Iomega is currently located in San Diego, California, and other offices in Utah, Switzerland, and Singapore.
