Description:

The program file bdinit.exe or BitDefender Live! is one of the key components of BitDefender AntiVirus, an application used to shield and monitor the computer (or a small network of computers for some versions) from viruses as well as other malicious applications. The BitDefender AntiVirus specializes in protecting the system especially from programs or web pages that aim to steal personal information that can lead to fraud. The BitDefender Live! or bdinit.exe file runs the 24 hour antivirus protection service and initiates the automatic updates of the BitDefender AntiVirus program.

By default, the bdinit.exe file is initiated automatically each time the application loads. It then attempts to contact the BitDefender Database in order to acquire new virus information as well as updates to the AntiVirus application itself. If downloads are successful, the bdinit.exe file launches a window to inform the user that new updates have been acquired.

The BitDefender AntiVirus supports both general Virus and malware protection as well as specialized fraud prevention functionality all without reducing the computers overall performance. Later versions of the BitDefender AntiVirus that still utilize the file bdinit.exe have the feature known as Gamer Mode which, when activated, temporarily adjusts the protection settings to cope with the currently active game in order to minimize slowdowns caused by the BitDefender AntiVirus. This new feature simplifies the applications interface as well as temporarily ceases scheduled scans. The bdinit.exe process, however, continues to perform its updating duties, but this time, without the pop-up notification.
