Good morning,
You can go into Folder Options and change the file association for .EXE files. First, go to My Computer and go to the Tools menu. Choose Folder Options. Click the File Types tab.Scroll through the list until you get to .EXE. Highlight that (or click it). A box should open. Make sure that the file association is “Application.”

Comment on My laptop was off but plugged in when the power went out, now it will not boot/start. The screen is dark. It has happened few months ago and I don’t remember how I got it to start up again. Help? by JANE

Well the off-on power cord didn’t work, I actually had to pull out the battery from the computer it self. Which didn’t make sense since the laptop should work without a battery, No?

On the desk top the type of programs I am trying to open have the .exe extension. When I click on the icons on the Desk Top I get the following: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel. This happens even if I try to open the “Word” program by clicking on the Word icon which I have on my Desk Top also. I cannot even open a blank “word” document when I click on the “Word” icon.

Thank you for the info. I began to suspect a virus as being the problem, so I contacted Microsoft, and after nearly 4 hours, the only thing that I got from the them was a migraine that is just now fading (3 days later) I purchased the Norton Internet Security 2009, and now have that installed and running well, but something is still very wrong, as I’m receiving alot of error messages while trying to play games. Anyway, thanks again for the info, I appreciate it.

Jim,
It should be able to do so since the restore defaults only affects the program files, not the data files. I would try the free scan. Click the PST Recovery Tool links above and then look for the tab on the website that says “Free Scan.”

I was trying to retore my fonts in Outlook 2003 and click restore defaults —- it did and wiped out me emails, addresses etc. Can this program reclaim my pst file after the restore defaults has been run?

Nothing happens when I try to run any of the antivirus software.

After deleting hosts, I still get the following error. (It acts like popup blocker is turned on, since I can do Google search when another website invokes the custom search from itself!)
