Recover Deleted Facebook Emails

I’m trying to recover deleted emails from Facebook. What is the best way to get these files?Celeste Stewart

Recovering Facebook Emails

When Facebook sends emails to you, it sends them to the email address that you have on file with Facebook and according to the settings you have specified. Recovering the Facebook emails will depend on how you received them in the first place. For example, do your Facebook email messages arrive in Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail or do you check your email account online such as via Gmail?

Email Recovery Steps

The first step for both email software and Web-based email is to check your Deleted Messages or Deleted Items folder. If you deleted the messages but have not yet emptied your Deleted Messages folder, the messages will be waiting for you. Simply click the folder and browse through the list in search of the missing Facebook emails. Another option is to use your email program’s search box to search all folders for messages from Facebook.

Email Recovery Software

Now, what if you emptied the Deleted Messages folder? If you emptied a Web-based folder, then you are out of luck unless you downloaded the messages to your computer. On the other hand, if you opened the messages from either Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Live Mail, you do have options! Email recovery software exists for recovering deleted messages. You need to be careful to select a data recovery program that has specific capabilities for recovering email messages for your specific email application. We recommend Data Recovery Pro from ParetoLogic Software. In fact, this tool has a free scanner so that you can see if your Facebook emails are recoverable before you invest any money in the product. Try the scan and see if your Facebook messages can be recovered.

Recover Deleted Facebook Messages

Here’s another situation: What if you deleted a message on Facebook and want to recover it? If you have the original email notification that Facebook sent you, open that notification and scroll down to the section that says, “To reply to this message, follow the link below” and then click the link. Since the message has been deleted, you won’t see it; however, a new link will be provided labeled, “Show deleted thread.” Click the link and view the deleted message.

Recover Mozilla Thunderbird Email

Reset Thunderbird View Settings

Depending on the cause of your missing emails, there are a few different scenarios that might work to retrieve them. If you are missing emails from your Thunderbird inbox that you haven’t moved or deleted, you should try these troubleshooting tips:

  • Open the View tab, then Messages and make sure it is set to All,
  • Open the View tab, then Threads and make sure it is set to All
  • Check that the Advanced Folder Views is set to All Folders

If you are trying to retrieve emails that you have deleted, or may have accidentally deleted, Mozilla Thunderbird offers comprehensive instructions to undelete them here.

Restore Deleted Thunderbird Email Accounts

If you have deleted your entire Thunderbird email account by clicking Remove Account, it is still possible to retrieve email. The data should still be stored on your computer in a Mail folder.

  1. First, you will have to start Thunderbird and create a new email account, but use the same username and settings as the account that was deleted.
  2. The software will automatically recognize that there is an earlier account with the same name and designate a -1 - to the account name to distinguish it.
  3. Now, in Thunderbird, open Tools, Account Settings, Server Settings, then Local Directory - find the old account directory - the name without the - 1 - and select it
  4. Restart Thunderbird
  5. Open the inbox and it should display any received messages

Contact a Remote Technician

If these basic steps don’t work to recover your email, there are a number of more advanced techniques that assume a fairly large knowledge base and altering files and folders. If you require more personalized advice, I suggest that you contact a remote technician for one-on-one support. A technician can walk you through troubleshooting steps to resolve your issue.

Install a Data Recovery Program

If you are missing emails as a result of a computer virus or data loss, there are also a number of data recovery products on the market that will scan your computer and recover all kinds of lost data. Here is a link to a program called Data Recovery Pro by Paretologic. These programs are very helpful and user-friendly, and will do the work for you to recover your missing emails. Make sure to select the Pro version as the standard version does not recover emails.

How to recover email with data recovery tool

My computer was wiped after data had been backed up. However, when it was restored, I found my original Windows Mail was missing! A new one is in its place. Can my original Windows Mail be found and restored?

Kat DelongYou can probably recovery your lost Windows Mail, but the method depends on exactly where it is at this moment. Is it possible that the file is just hidden? Go to My Computer and then choose Organizer and then Folder and Search Options. Click on the View tab, select Show hidden files and folders and click Ok.

Copy to New Windows Mail

If you can find the old folder, you can copy the messages and account information to the new Windows Mail.

  1. First, go to C:\Users\ (Old mail folder)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail.
  2. Select all files and the copy to: C:\Users\(New mail folder)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail.

Transfer Mail Settings

You can also transfer your mail settings to the new folder. These are located in the registry, and you can recover them as long as the registry hive is still readable.

  1. Go to Start and type in: regedit.exe. Click Enter.
  2. Select HKEY_USERS. You will see the file menu. Choose Load Hive.
  3. Go to C:\Users\(Oldmailacccount) and select NTUSER.DAT. Give this the key name: OldUserHive.
  4. Now go to: HKEY_USERS\OldUserHive\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail and choose it.
  5. Go to File, Export and Desktop. Give this a filename and Save.
  6. Now select HKEY_USERS\OldUserHive. From File, select Unload Hive.
  7. Go to Notepad. Open the file that you named in step #5.
  8. Choose Edit and then Replace. Under “Find What”: HKEY_USER\OldUserHive
  9. Under “Replace With”: HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Choose Replace All.
  10. Save and close Notepad.
  11. Go to Registry Editor again and choose File and then Import. Locate mailsettings.reg and open.

Now, you need to prevent Windows Mail from crashing because of a flaw in the Signature Key. Delete the “Signature” registry key. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\signatures. Delete this key. Now you can add the signature manually. Go to Windows Mail, Tools and then Options. Choose Signatures and add yours manually.

Data Recovery Tools

There are several downloadable tools that you can use to recover data including deleted or corrupted emails if you don’t want to try to alter the registry.

Data Recovery Pro is a program that can even recover deleted emails from Windows Mail Vista, has a good support program and allows you to download a free trial before buying the program. If you prefer a freeware download, you can try a program like Advanced Windows Mail Recovery, but be aware they offer little if any support.

Hopefully, this advice will allow you to recovery your old Windows Mail files quickly.

Repair PST Files and Recover your Outlook Email

We “Recommend” that you Download this PST Repair Tool

Microsoft Outlook is an extremely popular desktop based email client. As well as being used to send, receive, and store email messages it can also be used to manage contact lists, store notes, and set reminders. These functions and the fact that it is considered a free application that is typically included with all Windows operating systems make it so popular with individual users and with business users alike.

What Is A PST File?

The PST file contains all important email information. This includes the subject, To and From fields, the main body of the email, and even attachment details. If a PST file becomes corrupt then you can potentially lose all of the emails that you have stored within the Outlook program. For home users this can be devastating and for business users it can be completely catastrophic.

Outlook PST Repair

For a lot of years users that have suffered at the hands of corrupt PST files have had to rely on the use of expensive software or data retrieval experts. However, Outlook PST Repair has changed all that. They have released a number of successful and, above all else, affordable data recovery applications. One of these applications is Outlook PST Recovery, which is used for repairing PST files and recovering Outlook and Outlook Express Email.

Selecting The PST File

Once installed open the installation. Outlook PST Repair is designed in such a way that it is essentially one large Wizard. The on screen instructions are incredibly simple and intuitive to follow but you will first of all need to select a PST file to recover. Browse your system using the Explorer window that you will be presented with and once you find the file click Open to select it.

Previewing The Recovered Contents

You will then be presented with a preview of the items that can be recovered. If Outlook PST Repair displays a preview then you will be able to successfully use Outlook PST Repair to recover these files. If no preview is displayed then the file has become too corrupt to work with.

Save The Recovered PST Files

Once you have activated a license key you will then be able to choose a location to save the recovered PST file to. In Outlook you should then click the File Menu and Select open in order to open individual emails that you have recovered. Once completed you can close Outlook PST Repair and return to Outlook in order to continue sending and receiving emails as normal.

Recover My PST Mail Files Conclusion

Outlook PST Recovery is an intuitive and simple method of recovering corrupt or damaged Outlook PST files. The interface is very simple and all instructions are provided in a Wizard type fashion. By following these instructions you can recover virtually any corrupt PST file from your hard drive and then access the emails as normal.

Download Top Email Recovery Tools

In earlier discussions, I have talked about recovering messages from Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express

You now know that it is indeed possible to recover data from Outlook PST files and Outlook DBX files using special email recovery software. But what about web-based emails such as Yahoo and Hotmail? Can you recover those?

If you’re like me, you have several email accounts including a few web-based email addresses. For example, I have a Yahoo email account that I rarely use. In fact, it’s been deactivated because I haven’t logged in lately. Upon reactivating the account, I will find that all of my old Yahoo messages are long gone. Can I get them back? Maybe.

In addition to losing all web-based emails because of inactivity, deleting emails in order to make room for future messages is common. Free web-based email accounts offer limited storage space. It doesn’t take too many emails with attachments to fill up the quota. While you can recover deleted web-based emails from the “trash” if they are still in the trash folder, once they’re emptied from the trash, they’re gone for good - or are they?

If you have opened a web-based email message and viewed it on your computer, you may be able to recover the message using data recovery software. This depends on if the HTML file is still hanging out in your Temporary Internet Files folder. Even if you’ve cleared the Temporary Internet Files folder, data recovery software may be able to dig deeper to where the data actually resides on your hard drive if no new data has overwritten it.

For example, you will need a data recovery tool such as ParetoLogic’s Data Recovery Pro that allows you to search by file type (in this case HTML) and to specify the folder (Temporary Internet Files). This will bring up thousands of potential files so you might want to take advantage of the filtering features by entering a keyword such as “Yahoo” or “Hotmail” to narrow the results.
