I have a dmg program and it didn’t work on my computer. I have Windows.
What is a DMG program?
A DMG file is the format used for MACs. It is similar to the ISO file that can be used on Windows. A DMG file is pretty much a CD or disk image file that you can use if you have the right operating system. Quite a few open source applications are available for use as DMG files when using a MAC OS X environment. Any MAC OS prior to this version will not be able to open and use the DMG file extension that is designed as a compressed bzip2 file.
Since you are using a Windows Operating System, you are not going to be able to open the DMG program unless you obtain a secondary application.
How to Open a DMG Program on Windows: Secondary Applications
If you are determined to open your DMG program on a computer with a Windows operating system, then you will need to obtain a third-party software program that is capable of converting and transferring the file images to your Windows-based PC. I can’t vouch for this application since I haven’t used them myself, but among your options you have TransMac. It will transfer the images to your PC.
You also have the option to convert the file using the command line utility dmg2img. It will convert the FMG file to an ISO Image. Even if you are able to open the file, there isn’t any guarantee that you will be able to use it in a Windows operating system environment.
How to Open a DMG Program on a MAC OS X System?
In general, to open a DMG file or program on a MAC, you simply double click on the file. Once you do, a window opens and you are able to drag the icon to the folder that you want to keep it in. In some cases, it is necessary to run a special installer such as when you have a .pkg file with it. The MAC programs that open DMG files include Oracle Binary Format Dump File and Macintosh OS X Disk Copy Disk Image File.
DMG Errors
For those people using the MAC OS X operating system, DMG errors might be solvable if you are familiar with the Objective-C programming language. Error messages typically occur when the operating system is not equipped to deal with that type of file.
