That is to say, the original authorship appearing on any website can be protected by copyright. This includes all of the content that is found on a particular website including the literary works, photographs, illustrations, sound recordings, and any other content or form of authorship that can be protected by copyright. More specifically, once online works that are accessible over a communication network (the Internet) including websites, FTP sites, and homepages become tangible and fixed, they are open to copyrighting.

Those works are subject to copyrighting until they can be viewed, reproduced, or communicated from a tangible state. However, copyrighting is not mandatory.

U.S. law does not allow for the copyrighting of procedures, ideas, systems, or methods of operations.

The procedure for registering all of the contents of a website for copyright can be accomplished online through the electronic Copyright Office. To register a copyright, one must complete an application. Each application contains three basic parts: the form, the filing fee, and the deposit. The deposit is a copy or copies of the work that is being registered for copyright.

The filing fee is nonrefundable. The deposit is non-returnable. Once the information is received in proper order, the copyright registration is valid and goes into effect. However, processing time does vary.

Registering for copyright online is the fastest and least expensive way. In fact, this is the preferred method when copyrighting basic materials such as visual arts works, literary works, and performing arts works. Performing arts works can include sound recordings, motion pictures, and single serials. Online registration that occurs through the electronic Copyright Office is often referred to as eCO.

If you register online, the fee is slightly smaller. The processing time is much quicker. I have the option to conduct online tracking of my application’s tracking. I also have the ability to upload into an eCO certain types of deposits directly as electronic files. I also have the opportunity to make a secure payment through electronic check, credit card payment, or debit card payment.

The second option to register a copyright is to complete the fill-in Form CO, which can be obtained online. These forms utilize updated barcode technology that makes it easier and quicker to process this type of application. Once I complete the form on my computer, I can print it out, and mail it in with my payment and deposit. (Remember the deposit is my copy of the work to be copyrighted.)

The third option for filing for copyright involves a paper application. I must send a written request for this type of application. The applications for copyright registration eCO and CO can be obtained online at www.copyright.gov.

Each time new material is added to a website, it must undergo its own application. Each new application should only include the new material and should never include any previously copyrighted material in the request to receive copyright.

Graphics can be used to brighten up any web page, adding pictorial content to enhance the viewer’s experience. Creating graphics for your web page can be done through many different software applications that can be purchased either online or in the store. However, before purchasing software designed to create graphics for web pages, check the system requirements to ensure that the application will work properly once you install it on your machine.

The particular application that you use will depend partly on the operating system, hard disk size, and RAM that you have for your computer. It will also depend on your budget and the specifications for the graphics that you are looking to embed into your web site.

Additionally, it is possible to obtain graphics for your web page from a diverse assortment of online resources including icons, animations, images, wallpaper, clip art, and more. Specially designed web templates are also available for those computer users who prefer to obtain something ready made.

In addition to web page graphics, web page backgrounds can be used to enhance the look of your web page. Backgrounds for web pages come in an assortment of textures, designs, patterns, bordered, and themes. Web graphics encompasses a wide array of buttons, banners, ornamental bars, special fonts, and more that can be used to spruce up the look of a web page.

Two basic types of graphic images are often used in the creation of web page graphic. These include vector based and pixel based. Vector based graphics utilizes a text-based language that details what is drawn. Pixel based graphics use small dots to create bitmap-based images.

Popular software applications that are used to create web graphics include InkScape, CorelDraw, Freehand, and Adobe Illustrator. Gimp is another site that provides freely distributed software for GNU Image Manipulation Program. This software can be used to change image composition, photo refinishing, and more. Certain software applications include graphics for the web.

Some graphics are available to the public for no cost. In some cases, it is necessary to provide credits if required by the original owner or creator of the graphics. A number of graphic tutorials are also available online that will teach users how to create and edit web graphics of all types.

It is possible to hire a graphics designer’s services to create a specialized look for your web page. Customized graphics often take a great deal of time and expertise. Anyone who decides to go this route should obtain the details such as fess and the estimated time needed in writing. This might be the best route for someone who is developing a professional web site.

Selecting web graphics is a very personalized decision. Classes are offered both online and offline to teach individuals both the basic as well as the finer points of graphic design. Learning how to use graphics to enhance your web site can be fun as well as educational.

Many newcomers to the world of the Internet wonder how they can get their webpage listed on the search engines for the Internet. In fact, some of these individuals believe they need to contact each of the major search engines and tell them about their website. This, however, is not necessarily true.

Many of the major search engines utilize “spiders” generated by software to crawl through the Web and search for new content. As these spiders locate new web pages, they add them to the search engine database. These spiders automatically crawl through the web in search of content each and every day. This is how search engines maintain such large databases. Each directory contains millions of web pages.

However, even though your web pages will be discovered by the search engine spiders does not mean that you can’t also submit the information yourself. In fact, submitting your information ensures that your website is noticed and logged in by the spiders. In fact, many websites utilize the services of search engine optimization specialists. One of the tasks for these individuals is to submit their clients’ web pages to search engines.

In general, each time a new page is created or an old one is modified with new content, this information can be submitted to search engines for listing in the directory. It isn’t necessary to do so, because as I stated earlier, the search engine spiders will eventually discover the new web pages. It will however guarantee that the new web pages are discovered in a timely fashion.

If I want my web pages to get recognized by human powered directories, then I do need to submit my information to them. Otherwise, these directories will not be aware that my content even exists. Some directories offer a paid service to include your web site in their listings. Take the time to read the small print and find out exactly what you get for your paid fee.

The spiders also take note of a web site’s ranking in relation to other web sites. In order to increase your web site’s ranking, you need to utilize search engine optimization techniques. These techniques involve such tasks as setting up your page title, META tags, and the site’s structure in order to maximize the opportunity for the search engine spiders to take note and locate your web site.

Some of the major search engines where you can submit your web site to include: Google, MSN, and Yahoo. Visiting these web sites will provide you with links to the information you need to submit your web site information on your own. If you want to check to see if your web site is already listed in Google’s index, simply conduct a search for the URL of your website.

Setting up links within your web site is also a good way to get noticed by search engines. Including reciprocal links is another useful way to gain attention from search engine spiders.

Finding free web space can be accomplished easily enough. Lots of websites are dedicated to helping computer users locate these services. Therefore, all it takes to find free web space is a bit of time, access to the Internet, and a list of the requirements you want to meet with your web space.

The first place that you should start is with your ISP or Internet service provider. Most providers offer a small amount of free web space, perhaps 2 to 10 MB. If you aren’t sure, contact your customer service department to ask.

Next, you can check websites that feature directory listings for free web space. Since you will most likely need to select the options that you are looking for in your web space, it is best to determine your needs and wants beforehand. Once you have made your determination as to the specifications that you want, you are ready to search in earnest.

Most of the websites that provide listings of free web space will request your specifications before returning a list of suitable providers. Typically, you will receive quite an extensive list of available providers of free web space. Once you have this list, you can check out their websites for more information.

If you already have a website using the free space allotted by your ISP, you can use it to gauge how much more space you need. For example, let’s say that you want to expand your website by ten more pages. Determine how much space one page on your existing website uses and multiply this by the total number of pages your new website will have. This should be ten plus the number of existing pages you already have. So if you have 4 pages plus ten new ones, you will multiply by 14 to come up with the amount of space you need. This is important because not all providers of free web space offer the same amount of space. Some limitations do exist, but you can discover what they are by reading through the provider’s information and FAQs.

Additionally, it is equally important to read through all of the fine print of the website that you are considering using. In some cases, signing up means that you also agree to advertising banners being displayed on your website. If you don’t feel comfortable with this, continue searching until you find a provider who can meet your specifications.

I also suggest reading a few reviews or testimonials about the different possibilities. This will provide you with a clear idea of the experiences that others have had with a particular provider of free web space.

I recommend printing out the instructions for transferring your website so that you have them readily at hand. You should also familiarize yourself with the website’s FAQ section since it will most likely contain quite a bit of pertinent information. Plus, you can always use their customer service department if anything crops up once you upload your web pages.

Part of the fun of creating your own website is the ability to also create your own domain name. Typically, people try to pick a domain name that provides an indication as to the content that will be found on the website. In other cases, all of the “good” domain names have already been taken and so the individual has to get a bit creative when selecting a domain name. This is one of the primary reasons that many people go about the business of obtaining their domain name before they are ready to actually go about the business of constructing their website.

The first step is to take a look at the domain name registry to see if someone has already registered the name. If it has already been taken, then you need to choose something different for your domain name. If it hasn’t been taken, then you can register the domain name for yourself. Registering the domain name is also referred to as parking it or reserving it.

Once you register the domain name, you have ownership of it. However, it all depends on the hosting site for it and whether or not you renew your registration for the name. You must also pay a fee when you complete the registration. This fee is renewable on an annual basis.

One point that you need to understand is that you must also have a place to park your domain name in order to get it. Even if your website hasn’t undergone any true type of construction yet, you can still place your name on a site. If people click on it, they will simply get the message “under construction,” which lets them know that it isn’t quite up and running yet.

In order to register your domain name, you will need to find a company that will help you to park your selection. In fact, some of these companies are even set up to check the availability of the domain name that you have selected. Lots of companies exist that are more than willing to help you set up your own domain name.

You need to be careful when deciding which company to go with. Some of these companies will set you up with a domain name for a one-year timeframe. After that time has passed, you need to renew your agreement with this company and pay the fee in order to keep the domain name. If you decide not to renew your registration that company will keep the rights to the domain name and you will be left to discover a new one elsewhere.

Some companies will agree to allow you to transfer your domain name to a different hosting company for a small fee. In order to experience less difficulty with transferring your domain name, you should list yourself as the technical contact as well as the owner and administrative contact.

CSS is an acronym that stands for Cascading Style Sheets. It is primarily used with Web documents that utilize HTML and XHTML. However, it can also be used with Web documents that use XML, XUL, and SVG. CSS allows virtual design issues to be taken care of separately from the logical structure of the Web document.

While HTML, XHTML, XML, XUL, and SVG are used to build the structure of the Web document, CSS is used to style the content of the Web document. In simple terms, CSS puts on the finishing touches and is responsible for making the Web page look nice, attractive, eye appealing, or whatever word you want to use to describe how the page looks.

Take a look at the following explanations to get a better understanding of what CSS or Cascading Style Sheets actually means. Styles are used to define how to display the elements of HTML. Styles were first developed to solve problematic issues that developed when the number of HTML tags and attributes became overwhelming to deal with. The idea, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), was to simplify the separation of a Web document’s presentation from its content.

These styles are then stored in style sheets. The style sheets include the rules specified by the styles or more specifically, the representation of a Web document. Basically, they dictate how a Web document will be displayed including the typefaces, colors, fonts, margins, and other aspects of style. More than one style specification is included on a single style sheet. All of the varied style definitions cascade into one.

Today, the style sheets can save individuals a great deal of time and work. They define how the content is to be displayed. Style sheets can present such information as how the headings of a document should appear, what colors are used, and what type of font is going to be displayed for the text.

The external style sheets are stored in something referred to as CSS files. These external style sheets provide a lot of flexibility because they make it possible to set up or change the appearance or layout of each of the pages on a site. All it takes is the time to edit one external style sheet or CSS document. This is a timesaving conception that allows developers to control the look and design of all of their Web pages without having to edit each one.

CSS allows your documents that utilize HTML to feature a variety or output styles or display features. It is used to add style to Web documents through the use of fonts, layouts, colors, and other aspects of presenting a document.

All of the main browsers support Cascading Style Sheets. This style sheet language provides more flexibility to Web presentations due to its ability to incorporate stylistic changes easily. Once the Web documents is created or built, all changes in the look or design of the document can be implemented through the style sheets.

Linux Hosting get better with Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP

Linux has become a popular option for the hosting of web servers since the software project was started as a hobby more then a decade ago.

One of the most popular hosting configurations for large dynamic or complex websites is known as LAMP, an acronym for Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP.

Linux is the operating system that will run the physical hardware of the server. It is an open source project; the source code that is used to generate the executable program is available for anyone who wants to download it free of charge.

There are several major distributions of Linux packaging massive number of other open source programs into a Linux based operating system. Unlike Microsoft Windows these are usually available as a free download or on CD/DVD for a small fee.

The other open source projects and software play a major role in hosting a website in a LAMP configuration.

The ‘A’ is another very large open source project the Apache HTTP Server. This piece of software is hands down the most popular web server going. It is able to provide high volume hosting of large sites if it has been properly configured. It also has the ability to host scripted dynamic web pages in a very large number of languages.

Most often it’s the scripting language that provides the final ‘P’ of the acronym. PHP, Python, Perl all fitting in that spot.

Depending on the programmers preference or the project requirements just about any language can be used; whether it’s a scripting language or one that is compiled. Often for rapid development a language such as PHP may be used because it provides a large standard library of functions to provide access to a variety of databases and utility code.

Unlike most of the other software in a typical LAMP server, MySQL is not strictly open source, but it is available for free. For most light weight database driven sites MySQL provides a stable way to use an SQL database. There are many other databases which implement the SQL standard as well, such as the open source PostgreSQL.

Linux is a robust option for hosting websites of any size. With the massive amount of open source software available for free it can also be a much cheaper option when compared with other commercial software.

Apollo Hosting

Apollo Hosting has been my web host since mid 2003. I decided to subscribe to them due to my friends’ advice, who are also subscribers of Apollo Hosting. My friends are impressed of Apollo Hosting’s services and they swear by the quality and reliability of Apollo Hosting’s services, so I decided to try them out. Try them out, I did, and was amazed at how they take care of my needs as their client. I also checked out Apollo Hosting’s credibility through the power of Google and found both rave reviews and rant reviews about them. I found the rant reviews fine but the rave reviews were very helpful. I am reviewing Apollo Hosting’s services so that people out there who are looking for a web host or switching to a new one will gain insight of Apollo Hosting’s services. Reviews really helped a great deal during my search of a web host and I am sincerely hoping that this review will help you out, too.

Apollo has been hosting 165,000 domains up to date since they started offering web hosting services in 1999. Apollo Hosting is a privately owned company and their offices are situated in Austin, Texas. They have an abundance of web hosting plans to suit every type of customer. They have the Linux Shared Hosting with three web hosting plans; The Value Plan, The Business Plan and The Ecommerce Plan. Their Windows Shared Hosting with two web hosting plans; The Windows Plus Plan and the Windows Pro Plan and their Business Hosting or Virtual Private Server or VPS Plans with three web hosting plans; The Lite VPS plan, The Standard VPS plan and the Advanced VPS plan.

They have been recognized for their topnotch services by prominent web hosting reviewers namely: TopHosts Top 5 Web Host Award for August and September 2006, Hosting-Review.com’s Editor’s pick for 2006, HostReview.com’s Top 10 Hosting company for March 2006 and 2007, and Top 10 Budget Hosting and Dedicated Hosting for January 2007, Editor’s Choice Award - Ecommerce by FindMyHost.com for October 2006 and Guaranteed Host Award among many other recognitions from other reputable web hosting reviewers.

Apollo Hosting’s elaborate web hosting plans offer prospective clients numerous choices to fit the clients’ needs. Whether you are seasoned or new in web hosting, their web hosting plans are designed in such a way that new clients will not be intimidated and seasoned clients will see the ingenuity in Apollo Hosting’s web hosting packages.

The Linux Shared Hosting plan is categorized into three web hosting plans: The Value Plan priced at $6.96 for 24 months, The Business Plan priced at $13.96 for 24 months and the Ecommerce Plan priced at $20.96. These three plans differ in cost, due to the fact that they add extra features of the packages as the cost goes up. The general features of the Linux Shared Hosting plans are as follows: Resources, Domains and IP Addresses, Email services, Spam / Virus Filtering, Ecommerce features, Database support, Programming and Scripting, Access Features, Website tools and features, Multimedia Options, Marketing tools, Technical Support, Guarantees and other Optional Add-on features.

These are the specific features you can benefit from when you subscribe to the Linux Shared Hosting plan: 3,000 up to 10,000 MB of storage, 100 to 200 GB Bandwidth, 1 to 10 websites included, Dedicated IP Address, 1 to 10 sub domains, 50 t o500 POP Email accounts, Unlimited Email aliases, Webmail, 1 t o10 mailing lists, Auto responders, Email Forwarding, Form mail which is free upon request, Fax through Email $3.41 a month, Spam Assassin with $20 setup fee, Shared SSL Certificate, Personal SSL Certificate $99 per year with one time installation fee of $30, Free Merchant Account setup, Free Payment Gateway setup, PCI Compliance scans free for a year, Compatible with PayPal Shopping cart, osCommerce Shopping cart, Miva Merchant 5 Shopping cart $9.95 a month with one time installation fee of $25, Unlimited MySQL4.1.10a Database and MySQL Database Quota, Plesk Application Vault, ColdFusion 6.1 for $10 a month, Sun Java System ASP 4.0 for $10 a month, PHP MyAdmin, CGI Bin, PHP 4.3.10, Perl 5.8.0, Python 2.2.2, C and C++, CRON Management Tools, Control Panel, SSH limited, Unlimited FTP Accounts, Anonymous FTP, Site Symphony 3 pack, Mambo Site Builder, FrontPage Support, Dreamweaver & MS Publisher Support, Custom Error Pages, Password Protect Directories, Free Web Content, Website Chat, b2Evolution Blog Software, Content Management System, Server Slide Includes or SSI, Guestbook, Bulletin Board, Photo Gallery, Real Audio/Video, Microsoft Media, Flash, Shockwave, Quicktime, Get Traffic Toolbox, Submit Site to search engines, Site statistics, Urchin 5 Web Analytics, Urchin Ecommerce Module, Google Adwords $25 worth coupon, Free $50 Credit at Yahoo Search marketing, Affiliate Manager, Keyword Verification tool, Link Popularity Checker, Search Engine Saturation Tool, Meta Tag Generator, Miva Marketplace, Internet Marketing Course, Access to Raw Log Files, Amazon.com Merchant Interface, Extensive Online Documentation, Video tutorials, 24/7/365 Live Chat, Toll Free Phone Support, 30 day Money Back Guarantee, 99.9 % Uptime Guarantee and No Risk guarantee.

Some options and features are not available in the Value Plan because of its low price that’s why Apollo Hosting offer what they call Optional Add-ons to Linux Shared Hosting Plans that are devoid of the other features you get with either the Business Plan or the Ecommerce Pro Plan. Of course additional payment is required. This way, you can get all the general tools and services that you need to get started with your site and as you go along and need more resources and tools, you can simply add additional options that you see fit to your needs.

I will not elaborate on the other plans Apollo Hosting offers e.g. their Windows Shared Hosting Plans and the VPS / Virtual Private Server Plan or Business Hosting Plan because I personally am not familiar of how it works as I only have the Ecommerce Pro Plan which is under the Linux Shared Hosting Plans. If you want more information for their other Web Hosting Plans, you can visit their site at www.apollohosting.com.

I got my first website up and running on July of 2003 and have been with Apollo Hosting since then. As a newbie to the website industry, I wanted to find a perfect web host that will help me in my new endeavor. I was an absolute web hosting amateur if you may and I was considering Apollo Hosting because it came highly recommended by friends and web hosting reviewers alike. I first availed of Apollo Hosting’s Value Plan because I didn’t know the ropes yet and I was at first intimidated by the other packages; it was as if I was reading a different language, web hosting language if you will, and I was naturally overwhelmed. My colleagues and I used the FrontPage 2002 edition to build our site as most of my friends told me that it functions really well with Apollo Hosting’s services. As our site attracted more attention, more and more customers and members alike logged on daily, we decided to upgrade our account with Apollo to the pricier but more efficient Ecommerce Pro Plan.

I personally consider Apollo Hosting’s features especially its Ecommerce software and their customer service to be their greatest advantages over other web hosting companies. Apollo Hosting offers the Miva Merchant 5 shopping cart which is valued at $995 but with the Ecommerce Plan you can avail of it at $9.95 a month with only a one time installation fee of $25. They always offer the latest version of the Miva shopping cart because it keeps getting better and more efficient with every new edition. Apart from the very reliable customer support of Apollo Hosting, the Miva shopping cart also comes with the Silver Support directly from the Miva team at a reasonable discount. Instead of calling the customer support of Apollo with regards to the Miva shopping cart, you can directly call Silver Support as they are the experts on the Miva software. Another convenient thing about Miva is that it supports PayPal so you can use PayPal as your merchant account rather than getting your own business account. Also with the Ecommerce Plan are tools to help you with building your site and your online store. These are tax and shipping calculations, a point and click storefront tool from Miva Merchant, credit card processing and automatic customer receipts among others. Their Control Panel is simple to use for updating and managing your site. They also have a Get Traffic Tool box to help your site get traffic or get noticed on the internet by using online marketing techniques like forwarding your site to search engines. Customer support is friendly and knowledgeable both on the Live Chat and the Phone Support. I haven’t really had the chance to talk to the customer reps of Apollo Hosting that much as I don’t get many problems with my site and when I do, it is not because of Apollo Hosting.

If you’re looking for a web host with manageable and sufficient tools for your site, effective ecommerce tools and knowledgeable customer service, in short, complete value for your money; try Apollo Hosting’s web hosting plans.

The Role of Blogging in the Modern Society
A blog is a website constituting of entries generated by the users in journal style which are displayed in reverse chronological orders. These entries sometimes provide commentary or news on specific subject or are personal online diaries. It may be composed of images, links to webpages, and other media relating to the particular topic being taken up aside from mere text. Thus, there are photoblogs, sketchblogs, vlogs and podcasting or audio blogs. There are blogs constituting of personal accounts of personal lives, news releases, business or political corporate or community observations or articles. These webpages form part of social media, a unique form of modern journalism, and are not as private as its historical predecessors – diaries, chronicles and the like – after having evolved from online journals and diaries.

Present blog software automates the production, updating and maintenance of web articles and posts these articles in feasible reverse chronology. These blogs are hosted by dedicated blog hosting services or run by blog software or on regular web hosting services. These services are all provided by AN Hosting at competitive price. Hosting price must naturally be competitive and reasonable. To go lower will affect the stability the hosting provider.

Blogging is a modern social phenomenon especially with the innovation that allowed thousands of online diaries to be viewed by a community of users and the reader can add comments to the blog entries of other writers. These softwares combine the personal blog pages to other pages using tools such as permalinks, blogrolls and TrackBacks and weblog search engines. The blog community around the world is linked by these weblog search engines which are used by bloggers to collect links or threads to other blogs and bloggers with similar interests.

Some political blogs generate powerful public opinion that directs the flow of particular legislation and government policies. Some blogs constitute modern medium of news or information dissemination while others merely constitute as partisan gossip. Mainstream media follow the lead of some blogs or dig deeper than some of the materials already presented in blogs and even lead to some political controversies, scandals or exposes. The versatility of blogs allowed the community to react to the published materials of mainstream media. These reactions are also used by experts as sources for in-depth political analysis and more news. Blog has now acquired mainstream political roles and behind these roles are the silent partners – the webhosting providers like AN Hosting.

Content Management in the Cyberworld
Another computer system eagerly supported by AN Hosting is the CMS or content management system. CMS is a software used in processing multi-media content – organizing, controlling and publishing documents, images and other media. Within the context of online content, the management of web content facilitates easy publication in websites. Thus, web CMS software is used to store, control, revise, and publish documents and publications for specific industries. Among the features utilized are formatting, importation and creation of media materials, identification of users and their roles in the system and the assignment of corresponding roles to these identified users to the different content categories and types, defining workflow tasks, tracking versions of content, publication of the content to specific repositories.

AN Hosting company provides CMS environment to its customers by providing tools to control, audit, edit and timeline web media. These tools include templates and modules to modify presentation and content and extend existing web site functions or update and upgrade these customer sites. Automation covers workflow and document management by assigning tasks to be accomplished in sequence or parallel order to manage media content life cycles from submission, editing, layouting, publication, revision, publication, archiving, and destruction.

The customers’ websites’ content management systems run within the AN servers to control access of users to website content, usually through browsers or FTP. The media content are stored in the host database system together with previous and current editions. The CMS also control and publish the webpages to the specific websites. AN uses data bases such as MySQL and scripting tools and language such as PHP to parse data into visual content, compiled into documents and html and transformed to webpages using CSS. Included in CMS are other functions such as discussion boards, blogs, newsletters.

Affordable Powerful Hosting
The contemporary journalist, content management organization, e-businessman rely on the power of the internet and the reliable shared host provider.

Dedicated Web Hosting

Dedicated web hosting can be beneficial for your business if you need more flexibility and control than a typical shared hosting plan can offer you.

When you decide on dedicated web hosting, you do not have to share to the web server that you are leasing with anyone else. For this reason, dedicated web hosting affords you quite a few more benefits than other types of web hosting.

You may have heard this type of hosting called by several different names - dedicated web hosting, dedicated server, or managed hosting. They are all pretty much the same thing. Most times, you are responsible for all areas of administration of the server, but many hosting companies will provide this service for an additional fee. Depending on the type of business volume you are doing and how heavily you rely on hosting services, dedicated web hosting may be more cost effective than shared hosting.

Most of the time, dedicated web servers are located in data centers, similar to co-location facilities, which provide redundant power sources and HVAC systems. However, unlike co-location hosting, the server hardware is owned by your hosting company. They will provide the support needed for your operating system and applications if you ask, in some cases.

Depending on the availability and price, the operating system offered for your dedicated hosting service may either be Linux or Windows. Linux, being open source software, is included on many systems at no additional charge to the customer. However, since Microsoft requires additional license fees on all their products, the cost of running a Windows environment on a dedicated server can be quite a bit more expensive than one running Linux. This is something to consider when you are deciding how to configure your hosting system.

Each hosting provider will probably have a different definition of management roles since there are no clearly defined industry standards concerning this. For instance, one hosting provider may define a ‘fully managed’ dedicated server as one where you have access to a web based control panel, However, another provider may define this as having engineers ready to handle your server and network functions for you. When you are choosing a dedicated web hosting provider, you may want to ask your prospective web hosting provider about this.

Dedicated web servers reduce your dependency on your web host and bypasses technical support delays you may experience with shared hosting plans. You can instantly address any issues you may have, which is especially important if you have other clients on your server also. If you need reliable service, then a dedicated hosting plan is definitely something you might consider.
