Troubleshooting Facebook Avatars

I use Facebook, and although I have been trying for two weeks to get an answer facebook avatar, facebook photos, facebook graphics there, nobody replies. Beside the name of each person in Facebook there is a photo or what else the person puts. All these images have disappeared - mine and those from the others. I found them in the file “my documents”. How to get them back where they belong?

I’ve seen quite a few complaints about this problem, but precious little help or answers. I went into the Facebook help center and found this message that relates to photos: Some users are unable to view photos or photo albums. The photos are appearing as a small empty box, or are missing completely. This problem should be resolved shortly. This is under “Troubleshooting” and there is an option to report problems at the end of the message. My first suggestion is that you go here, directly to Facebook and report the problem if you haven’t already.

Change Facebook Application

While you are waiting for a reply or resolution from Facebook, you can try a few other things to get the photos to work correctly. One user had the following suggestion for people who had photos missing from their profiles:

  1. At the bottom left hand side of your Facebook page, find the Application tab and choose Edit All.
  2. Find the Photos app and click Edit.
  3. Choose Profile.
  4. You will see “box:available (add)”. Click “add” and choose OK.
  5. Go back to your profile and choose “boxes”.
  6. Your albums will appear at the bottom of the page. Click on the “pencil” at the top of the photos and choose “move tab to wall”.

Download Latest Java and Adobe Flash Player

Although it’s a long shot, it has been suggested that downloading the latest Adobe and Java can help you restore your photo functionality in Facebook.  You can find the newest Adobe Flash Player and Java by clicking on the links. You should not have to remove old versions of these programs before updating unless you are having problems with the installation.

Because this is a problem for some users and not others - I have not noticed this issue personally with my own account - you could always delete your current account and start a new one. Of course, if you have many friends and photos this can be a difficult decision and you may just want to wait for Facebook to resolve the problem on their own.

Problems Logging Into MySpace

Whenever I try to log into MySpace and type my password it won’t let me log in - it says something like “find jsmon” and won’t let me in. Please help!Kat Delong

There are a lot of reasons why your MySpace account isn’t working but it might take a little trial and error to figure out why.

MySpace Problems

First, make sure that it isn’t the website itself. There have been many instances in the past few weeks of login problems that originate with MySpace. If you are told that your account has been deleted and you know it hasn’t, this might be one of those instances. Your best bet is to go to MySpace help and read up on any alerts. You can also fill out a “Contact Us” form if you feel that none of these suggestions apply to your case. You may or may not have success in reaching someone there.

Stolen Password

Hate to say it, but your MySpace account may have been hacked. Break up with anyone lately? Make any new enemies? Did you log into your account at the library or where someone else could see you type in your password? Any time other people know your password, you are subject to someone going into your account and changing your password so that you no longer have access to that account. Unfortunately, in this situation the best you can do is contact MySpace, tell them that you have been hacked and open a new account. You must be using the original email you signed up with in order for them to verify your identity.

MySpace Locked

Has MySpace locked you out for any reason? If you try to sign in with the wrong password or ID too many times, MySpace will shut you down. You need to wait at least 15 minutes before trying again. You can also get locked out for spamming or other behavior that is against their rules.

Possible Solutions

To try to get around the lockout, you can:

  • Download the MySpace instant messenger and log into your account that way.
  • Try another browser. Sometime switching from IE to Mozilla Firefox will do the trick.
  • Try typing in: m.myspace.com into your browser to get into the mobile version and log in that way. You may not be able to use all of your apps, but you can at least get your messages.
  • Your firewall may be blocking MySpace. Try disabling your firewall and then logging on. Be sure to turn it back on again when you’re done.
  • Clear you cache, cookies and temporary Internet files. To do this in IE, go to Tools and then Internet Options. On the General tab, find Temporary Internet Files and choose Delete Files.

I really hope that one of these workarounds gets you in. Unfortunately, with services like this, sometimes the only solution is to try to cancel your old account and start over. Try to think of it as an opportunity to redo your account and it might not hurt so much.

Bebo’s Language List Incomplete

I have a problem on Bebo. It has changed my writing to Spanish and when I look up to see if United Kingdom is there, only the Spanish speaking countries are listed. Spanish? Can you help me?Susan Keenan

Bebo is a pretty cool social site. It takes a bit of browsing to find all of the neat features that it offers. From uploading videos to viewing them to sharing photos to chatting, Bebo offers a great deal for those who become members.

Errors with Bebo Language List

For some reason, Bebo seems to automatically change the language on its home page quite frequently. It’s a problem that many people are confused about when they encounter it. It doesn’t make sense for it to do so, especially if you’ve already selected your language. Nonetheless, it happens. Hopefully, the info that I provide here will help you. I can offer three ideas for changing the font. The first one is the most common one. The next two are simple enough to complete as well.

Changing Language in Bebo

Strategy 1:

Normally, you’d simply navigate to the lower right-hand corner of your screen to change Bebo language. There’s an image of a flag there that should be labeled with the language that you are using. In your case, this would be Español. You simply click on the word and select your new language choice from the menu that pops up.

Strategy 2:

Since it sounds as though the above strategy doesn’t work for you, then you need to try this tip for changing your Bebo language: Log out, use the steps above to change the language on Bebo’ home page, and log back in.

Strategy 3:

If that strategy doesn’t work for you, try clearing out the temporary cache in your web browser first and then entering and editing the language directly on your home page using strategy 1. Change the language setting to the one that you want.

How to Change Bebo Language Font

It’s important to note that special characters used in some languages do not migrate (transfer) properly in Bebo. Therefore, they aren’t going to show.

If you want to change your font while using Bebo, here are a few strategies that you can use for simple changes:

Bold Font: Enter <b> type your text </b>

Italic Font: Enter <i> type your text </i>

Underlined Font: Enter <u> type your text </u>

Strike Through Font: Enter <strike> type your text <strike>

If you enter the info exactly as above, only the text your type in between the two added bits will appear in either bold, italic, or underlined.

Facebook Does Not Allow Logon

Hi, when I try to log on to Facebook, once I’ve put in my email address and password it just redirects me to the same page - any ideas on fixing this problem? Kat Delong

This is not an uncommon problem and there are many things you can try to solve it. Because I don’t know what is causing the error, I’m going to list possible solutions for you to try in order from easiest to more difficult.

Password Issues

Are you absolutely sure that you are using the correct username and password? Do you have the caps lock pressed while you are entering the username and password? It may seem very basic, but you’d be surprised how often this happens. If you enter the incorrect information too many times you can get this error.

Internet Issues

Have you tried using another browser? For example, if you are using Internet Explorer, try logging on with Firefox. Your security settings may be too high - some users have had success removing the ICHP filtering from the firewall. Clear the cache, cookies and Internet history. To do this:

  1. Open your internet browser and go to Tools.
  2. Find Delete Browsing History.
  3. Put a check by: Temporary Internet Files, History, Form Data and Cookies.
  4. Select Delete.

Some users have had success by going to Open DNS and changing the DNS servers to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

There may be some patches that have been upgraded. To get to these, shut down your modem completely, wait a few minutes and then turn it back on again. When you reboot, try Facebook again and see if there is more success.

Computer Issues

Are you trying to get into Facebook from a bookmark or through your desktop? It’s possible that they have changed the login page and you are not seeing it through the bookmark that you are using. Go directly to the Facebook homepage at http://www.facebook.com/ and then manually go to the login page. If this method is successful, set a new bookmark and delete the old one.

I read of one user who was getting this username/password loop, and his solution was to set up a new user on his computer and then log into Facebook using this new user account. You could also try using another user’s account on your computer if you already have one set up.

If these don’t help you with your login problem, you have a couple of choices. Facebook doesn’t really have much support, although you can try to login under another user’s name and access the general help page, although they say that they won’t answer questions about a personal profile - this may fall under the heading of a general question. There is an unofficial website - All Facebook Help that may be able to help you with your issue.

MySpace Connection Error

Issue with connection on MySpace (all others such as AOL work fine.) Susan Keenan

Since the issue is only with your MySpace connection, the problem is most likely related to an application on your website that is interfering with that specific website. I’m not sure if you aren’t connecting to the site at all or if you are simply having problems with some of the web pages. It’s easier to diagnose a problem when a specific error message is given. Try the suggestions here to fix your problem.

Troubleshooting MySpace Connection: Switch Computers

One of the strategies that you can try to verify that it is the way your computer is set up is to attempt to access the website from a different computer. If it works, then you can assume the problem is not related to the website.

Troubleshooting MySpace Connection: Clear the Internet Cache

Sometimes, it is almost as though a computer can get stuck in a bad action and never recover from it. Clearing the temporary Internet cache often fixes the trouble. Follow these directions to delete stored information that might be contributing to the problem:

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Select “Tools” from the top of the menu.
  • Select “Delete Browsing History.”
  • Mark off the boxes in front of the following: cookies, form data, history, and temporary Internet files.
  • Click “Delete.”

If you are using a different browser, please check out the information for this article: Clearing Browser History.

Troubleshooting MySpace Connection: Security Software

It is possible that your security software is preventing you from accessing your MySpace page. Have you recently installed or updated any security applications? Is it possible that your security settings have changes to a more restrictive level? You can disable your security software temporarily and check to see if you can access MySpace. If you can, then you can tweak the settings in your security application to allow you to access the MySpace website. Perhaps you can lower the restriction to a lower setting when you restore the security software.

In addition, if you are child living at home, your parents may have blocked access to MySpace using parental controls software. If this is the case, you’ll need to convince your parents that you are responsible enough to use the site safely.

Troubleshooting MySpace Connection: Routers

You can see if resetting your router by holding in the reset button for ten seconds will correct the connection error. MySpace is known to create problems with certain settings on routers so you might also need to contact the manufacturer of the router that you are using with the computer. Explain the situation to them in detail. They should be able to take you through the steps needed to change the settings on the router that are preventing you from connecting to MySpace while allowing you to connect to other websites.

How to fix Facebook display problem

Why does my Facebook page only show half of it as there are no scroll bars on either side?

Susan KeenanFaulty display of the Facebook page seems to be a common occurrence. Sometimes even less of the page is showing for users of this popular social site. It is possible that your settings have changed on your computer, especially if you have recently updated any of your applications. In particular, the page display problem could arise if the settings for Java have changed or if you need to update it.

Run the Java Test

Now would be a good time to run the “Java Test.” This will check your installation of Java and let you know if it is functional. Simply visit this link: Java Test. If your Java is working properly, you will see the famous “Dancing Duke Logo.”

If your Java is experiencing a problem, then you won’t see the logo. If that happens, you will probably have to enable Java on your computer or complete an uninstall and reinstall of the Java application and enable it. Check your settings first and make sure that you have it enabled before you go through the trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling Java.

Update Java

If your version of Java is working correctly, make sure that you have the latest updates for it. If you do update, make sure that you enable Java on your computer.

Update Internet Explorer

Occasionally, problems with Java can occur if you haven’t updated to the latest version of Internet Explorer. You should be using IE 7. If you aren’t using IE7, visit this link, Internet Explorer Upgrade, and install the latest version of IE.

Enable Java in Internet Explorer

Follow the steps presented here to make sure that you have Java enabled on your computer. Even if you did this previously, do it now so that you can check to make sure the settings did not change.

1)      Open up Internet Explorer.

2)      Click on “Tools.”

3)      Click on “Internet Options” in the menu.

4)      Click on “Advanced.”

5)      Navigate to the option to enable Java. Check off the box in front of this option.

6)      Select “ok.”

7)      Restart Internet Explorer to apply the settings.

Enable ActiveX and Active Scripting in Internet Explorer

You might also need to enable ActiveX and Active Scripting in Internet Explorer.

1)      Open up “Internet Explorer.”

2)      Click on “Tools.”

3)      Click on “Internet Options” in the menu.

4)      Click on “Security.”

5)      Click on “Default Level.”

6)      Click on “ok.”

Random Troubleshooting Suggestions

If the setting for the page layout is set too wide, you will lose all of the side bars on the display. Have you recently changed the display settings for your monitor?

Select the “Update Feed” button on the screen. This might offer a temporary solution for you.

Sign into your logon page fresh. Don’t click on a saved link to log in as this might be automatically looping you to the bad display.

Clear the Internet cache including cookies and history.
