Does Registry Mechanic have a scheduler

When using Registry Mechanic, is it possible to have it do a scan once every week, all by itself?

Celeste StewartRegistry Mechanic’s Scan Feature

Registry scan is a good registry cleaning utility that allows you to scan your Windows registry for corruption, obsolete entries, invalid entries, and other clutter that can cause errors. To scan the registry, simply launch Registry Mechanic and click the Scan Your Registry link. From there, the software will begin scanning for errors.

Unfortunately, Registry Mechanic does not feature a scheduling tool. You cannot schedule weekly scans within the software like you can do with competing products such as RegCure. However, if you want a workaround, keep reading.

Using Task Scheduler

If you already own Registry Mechanic and don’t want to switch to a competing registry cleaner in order to benefit from weekly scans, you can use a built-in Windows tool called the Task Scheduler. Task Scheduler is a handy tool that allows you to program specific tasks to take place automatically. For example, if you want to defrag your hard drive each week at a specific time, use the Task Scheduler and let Windows take care of this chore for you automatically. The same is true of scheduling Registry Mechanic scans.

First, go into Registry Mechanic, select Options> General, and enable the “Remove all problems automatically” option. This way, when the scheduled scan runs, if any problems in the registry are found, they will be removed.

Next, in Windows Vista, go to Start> Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Task Scheduler. Click Create Task and give it a name such as “Registry Mechanic Scan.” Click the Trigger tab followed by New. Make sure that the trigger reads “On a Schedule” and then set up the schedule, in this case choose Weekly and pick the day of the week that you want the scan to run. Click OK and the click the Actions tab.

You will “Start a Program.” Click the Browse button to find Registry Mechanic. The path should be “C:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\RegMech.exe” unless you have placed the program in a non-default location. Next, add an argument such as “/QS” or “/S” for Quick Scan or Full Scan mode respectively. The makers of Registry Mechanic recommend using the full command line as follows (note the use of quotes and the spacing between the end quote and the forward slash):

“C:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\RegMech.exe” /QS

If you have an earlier version of Windows, the process is slightly different but quite similar. If you can’t find the Task Scheduler in the System Tools folder, look in the Control Panel under Scheduled Tasks.

Is Regcure safe to use?

I am informed by ‘Regcure’ that my computer has quite a number of errors which need correcting. Is RegCure safe to use?

Celeste StewartRegCure Registry Errors

RegCure is a registry cleaner that goes into the Windows registry and cleans out errors within. The registry can become clogged with obsolete and invalid entries which cause the computer’s performance to suffer as well as contribute to computer crashes and errors. For example, when installing a program, the program modifies the registry with necessary information. However, if the installation fails mid-way through, the registry entries may have been partially entered. Since the program never fully installs, there’s no uninstall option, so these partial entries remain in the registry, potentially confusing Windows.

The Free RegCure Scanner

The free RegCure scanner let’s you see if your computer’s registry is a good candidate for cleaning. Even brand new computers may have registry errors. If your computer’s performance is suffering or your computer is generating a lot of error messages and the RegCure scanner shows a significant amount of registry problems, cleaning unnecessary entries is an excellent step that can solve problems and improve performance.

Is RegCure Safe?

RegCure comes from a reputable software developer, ParetoLogic Software, based in Vancouver, B.C. The free scanner allows you to evaluate the software and see if your computer is a good candidate for registry cleaning before you buy it. It comes with safeguards such as a registry backup and restore feature that allows you to restore the registry should the cleaning make matters worse.

RegCure Benefits

RegCure features a schedule tool that regularly cleans your registry as often as you want it to. This helps to keep your PC running at its best with the least amount of interference from confusing instructions within the registry. After all, the more you use your computer, the more its registry is modified. Using RegCure is not a one-time performance booster. Rather, it is a useful tool that you can use regularly to maintain your computer.

Recover identity and home page

I deleted some freeware that I didn’t think I needed at the time. I’ve had some registry errors almost from the beginning. Please, if you can help me to get my home page and identity page back, I’d appreciate it very much.

Kat DelongYour question was a bit longer, but I have edited it down to get to the heart of your problem. From what I can tell, you are having registry errors that are causing problems on your system. First, let’s take a look at how the registry can give your system problems, and then we’ll give you the best solution to get you up and running.

What is the Registry?

A computer uses the registry to store information about hardware and software configurations, system settings and user profiles. Everything you do on your computer makes an entry or adds a key in your registry. Most of the time, if you are not using a key because the program has been closed or deleted, the key will also be deleted. Sometimes keys are left behind when they are no longer needed and these can cause errors, causing the registry to become damaged or fragmented.

Registry errors can also happen when malware, spyware and Trojans embed keys within the registry, causing all sorts of problems. Your problems may be caused by these viruses or they may have started when you deleted the freeware that inadvertently caused problems with your registry.

Registry Cleaner

Regardless of the causes for your registry issues, the best solution is to use a registry cleaner to scan your system and fix the errors. Altering registry keys yourself is not only difficult, but it can cause irreparable damage to your system, so it is better to use a program that will safely do it for you. We recommend RegCure as a reliable, tested program that comes with support to make sure that your registry issues are solved. Download the program and let it run, and with just a few clicks, your registry issues should be a thing of the past.

Antivirus Programs

I don’t know if you are regularly updating and running antivirus, antimalware and antispyware programs, but you should be. Once your system is back to normal, make sure you keep your system protected by running good antivirus programs. If you need some suggestions, Filetonic has a good review article here.

Resetting your Home Page

In Internet Explorer, if your home page has been changed, you can go back in and manually change it. Go to Tools > Internet Options and enter the URL to your preferred home page in the Home Page section.

Fix your registry, and your homepage and login issues should resolve quickly. If you need more help, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Regcure gets stuck

I downloaded and ran the ‘free’ version. Every time I run it, it gets as far as “program shortcuts” and quits with message, “RegCure Application has encountered a problem and needs to quit…”, and it quits. It will run the remaining items if I uncheck ’shortcuts’. I’m hesitant to buy it if it won’t scan all items. Suggestion?

Susan KeenanRegcure Problems due to Resident Antivirus Programs

RegCure can encounter problems running due to the resident scanners of antivirus applications that are installed on the computer. In particular, these scanners can affect the speed with which Regcure runs even to the point of causing it to freeze or quit. In order to resolve this issue, you should disable the resident scanner of your antivirus application while running Regcure. The resident scanner is also referred to as the autoprotect or realtime scanner. You can also try disabling any secondary antivirus applications that you have installed while running RegCure. Just remember to reinstall or enable your antivirus protection so that you do not leave your computer open to potential threats.

RegCure Problems: Incompatible System Requirements

Make sure that your computer system meets the requirements for the installation of RegCure. You need to have a minimum of 128 MB RAM and a minimum of 10 MB hard drive space. Additionally, your computer must be operating a 32-bit version of one of the following: Windows Vista, Windows ME, Windows XP (SP1 and SP2), Windows 98 SE, or Windows 2000 (SP4).

RegCure Problems: Tips

Try each of the following tips in your efforts to get RegCure to function properly:

  • Close all other applications when scanning your computer with RegCure.
  • Uninstall and reinstall RegCure in case you experienced a faulty installation.
  • Try checking shortcuts alone without checking other items.

RegCure Problems: Help File

RegCure has a handy help file built right into the application. Once you open RegCure, you can open the help file by clicking on the link titled “Help” in the main window on the right-hand side of the screen. You have the opportunity to browse through these files and you can print them if you want as well.

If RegCure still will not run, try uninstalling the application and then reinstalling it. It’s possible the download didn’t complete properly.

How to clean the Registry in Windows

Do I need to return my bonds when I want to reissue to include my husband and remove my grandchildren and great grandchildren? How do I clean my registry files? Thanks, I didn’t know this info was available through you.

Kat DelongWhen we talk about the registry in a computer, we’re talking about cleaning up the directory in your computer that stores the settings and options that operate Microsoft systems. For financial advice, I’d recommend turning to a trusted financial advisor or a website such as Money.com, SuzeOrman.com or Ameriprise.com .

What is a Registry?

As long as we’re here, let’s take a basic look at what a registry is and what it does. As I said, the computer’s registry contains the settings and information for the hardware, software and user settings for a Microsoft operating system. It also exposes the runtime information for the user.

A computer registry has two main components - keys and values. Keys are a lot like folders in that each one can contain a subkey that might contain even more subkeys. Values are pairs of names and data that are stored in the keys and often look a lot like key paths.

The registry is slit into hives which are a number of sections, named HKEY by their Windows definitions. The most common one a user will see is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE that stores the general settings for all users.

Cleaning the Registry

A user can edit the registry manually if there is a problem with their computer, but it is not recommended for the casual users. Altering the registry keys incorrectly can cause major damage to the system that isn’t easily fixed. Many people use registry cleaners such as RegCure to safely clean their registry for them if they are having issues such as a blue screen, computer freezing and system crashes. Registry cleaners scan the Windows registry either manually or on an automatic schedule. RegCure has a backup option that assures your won’t lose data. It will perform a free scan before you go ahead and purchase the program.

Hopefully, one of those websites can help you with your financial issues, but if you ever need help with your computer registry, feel free to come on back!

Kat DelongJava is a programming language that was originally developed by Sun Microsystems that is used by many websites and online games. These sites need the Java applets installed on your computer through the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). The Java download is free and easy to get on the Java website.

Java Registry Keys

Sometimes you want to uninstall Java completely or uninstall it in order to do a clean reinstall or upgrade. Sometimes when you have uninstalled Java either manually or using the Java uninstaller program you may still see the Java icon in your Add/Remove programs folder. This is because there are Java entries in the registry that are not fully removed, including Value Names and Value Data.

Manually Editing the Registry

You can manually remove the registry entries, but you need to be careful. Incorrectly altering the registry can lead to real problems with your computer, so make sure that you have it backed up (here are instructions on how to backup the registry) so that you can restore the system to the current version should the unexpected happen. To manually clean up the registry:

  1. Go to Start and then Run.
  2. Type in regedit in the edit field.
  3. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/

Uninstall.

4. Under this uninstall, you will find many registry entries within curly brackets.

The registry keys for Java will have a value name that includes Java2 for example: Java2 SDK,SEv1.4.1_02.

  1. Highlight the Java registry key you want. Right click on the registry key and choose delete. Confirm the delete and click Yes.
  2. Restart your Add/Remove Programs to see if the Java icon is gone.

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility

If you want to uninstall the Java installer but don’t want to do this manually, you can use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is found on the Microsoft website and will automatically cleanup all of the Java installer files from the registry.

RegCure

You can also use a program such as RegCure to clean up your registry. It will identify and fix any problems that you are having with the registry, including leftover Java registry keys.

Any of these methods should get rid of all of the Java registry keys that have been left behind when you uninstalled the program. Just make sure that you have your data backed up before you do anything to the registry because any mistakes can be catastrophic.
