Adjusting print settings Internet Explorer

When I print out “My Portfolio” I have 4″ on the right side of the page and the names of my stocks are not on the left! I’ve tried portrait and landscape. Help!

Kate DubenskyAbout Internet Explorer Print Settings

Assuming that you are using Internet Explorer as you web browser, changing your margins, header and footer print settings when printing from the Internet should be straightforward. Internet browsers do not automatically adjust webpages for printing, so we have to make some manual adjustments using the Internet Explorer user interface.

Using Page Set Up in Internet Explorer

You can access a Page Setup menu by right clicking on the printer icon at the top of the screen. The drop down menu lists Print, Print Preview, and Page Setup. Select Page Setup. From here you can change the paper size - A4 for letter sized - Borderless. Next, set the margins to 0. Even by selecting margins of 0 there will still be small margins, but they will be less than the default .75

Print Tools: Shrink to Fit and Print Preview

Internet Explorer 7 includes a feature called Shrink To Fit, which does exactly what is says, and shrinks the contents of a webpage to the size of the print preview screen and the printer paper. This tool might work to shrink the page appropriately to include all your information to print. Using the Print Preview option, available through the drop down menu that is offered when you right click on the print icon, you can see the exact data that the printer is preparing to print. With this utility you can troubleshoot and make adjustments without wasting time and paper printing out the wrong formatting.

Removing Headers and Footers

You can also remove the headers and footers from your print screens, which will remove the page numbers, dates and URLs that are automatically added by the browser. For Internet Explorer 6, open File, then Page Setup and delete the information listed beside Header and Footer. For Internet Explorer 7, follow the same steps as above to access the Page Setup window: Right click the print icon for the drop down menu, then choose Page Setup. Now delete the information listed beside Header and Footer. The exact steps for this procedure will differ for different printers and operating systems, so if these steps are not successful, you can contact remote technical support for immediate personalized assistance. We recommend the tech support offered here.

HP Photosmart HP 2610 Printer Problem

Our HP 2610 photosmart printer will not turn on. The power adapter output reads about 65 volts vs 31. Could this over voltage condition have damaged the printer’s motherboard? Should I invest in a new power adapter before buying a new printer?

Kate DubenskyHow To Diagnose a dead, or critically injured, HP Printer

Check the hardware and confirm the power levels

It is possible that a power surge has fried your printer, however it is difficult to say definitively without some more specific information. The user’s manual that came with your printer should have some information about dangerous power input and output levels. If you not able to find this information in your user’s manual, you could contact HP customer service for more details, and I’m sure their technicians would be able to diagnose your power adapter reading. Unfortunately, HP has discontinued the Photosmart 2610 All-in-One Printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier machine, so finding advanced tech support online might be difficult. Since it sounds likely that you are having a hardware issue, you might need to take your machine into a technician for an analysis. But, before you pack your printer into the car, there are some things to try at home.

Troubleshooting a printer that won’t turn on

To troubleshoot your machine, first determine if there is a power module - a black and silver rectangular box - attached to your power cord. If there is a power module adapter, disconnect the power cord from the wall as well as from your printer. After at least 30 seconds reconnect the cord, first to the printer, and then to the wall.

Check the power source

If there is no power adapter, unplug the cord from the wall, and the printer, if possible. If you are using any power bar multiple plugs or surge protectors, bypass them by plugging in to the wall directly. If the printer doesn’t turn on, make sure to try another outlet, in another room, to make sure that the problem isn’t the power outlet.

Check the power cord

The next option is to connect your power cord to another HP unit, to see if the cord works. You might have to take your power cord or power adapter to a computer shop to access another HP printer. If the power doesn’t come on, then you know the problem is in the cord, or at least one problem. At this point, try connecting a different cord to your printer to make sure that there isn’t another problem with the printer itself. If the printer works when you substitute another cord, then you know that the problem is in the power cord.

Epson 8400 will not print

My Epson 8400 will not print. How do I correct this?

Susan KeenanPrinters fail for a variety of reasons. Go through each of the suggestions here to try and discover a solution. Hopefully, you will find one before you get to the end.

Troubleshooting the Epson 8400 Printer: Access the Device Manager

The Device Manager can be used in an attempt to find out why your printer isn’t working. Follow these directions to use it:

1)      Click “Start.”

2)      Click “Control Panel.”

3)      Click “Performance and Maintenance.”

4)      Click “System.”

5)      Click “Hardware.”

6)      Click “Device Manager.”

If the Epson 8400 printer has an identifiable problem, a black exclamation point will show in the yellow background. A problem code should be displayed that explains the problem for you.

If a red “X” shows, the printer has been disabled, meaning the driver has not been loaded properly or it has become corrupted. If the red “X” is present, install the correct driver, which you can get from the Epson website.

If a blue “i” with a white background shows, then this simply indicates that the printer was manually selected. This doesn’t suggest a problem with the printer and so, you will have to continue troubleshooting.

If a “green” question mark appears next to the printer name (Epson 8400), then the driver has been properly installed. The “green” question mark will only appear on computers with Windows Me. Its presence simply means that some functionality might not be present, but the printer should still function.

Troubleshooting the Epson 8400 Printer: Re-installing the Printer

Re-installing the printer often solves problematic issues with the printer. This is especially true if this is the first time that you are installing the printer. It can happen when memory resources are low. Use the “Add/Remove” hardware utility in your computer’s “Control Panel” to remove and reinstall the printer. Since the Windows Operating System includes the drivers for most printers, it installs the drivers and printer automatically. Just connect your printer to the computer and turn the computer on. First, you should close all other programs whenever troubleshooting a device or installing it.

Troubleshooting the Epson 8400 Printer: Updating Printer Drivers

As technology improves and as we add more and more applications and hardware devices to our computers, it sometimes becomes necessary to update the drivers for it. To get your drivers, visit this link: Epson Stylus cx 8400 to download. Make sure that you select the correct operating system first.
