Kat DelongRegistry Error

What you’re seeing is a registry error that is associated with Windows Installer, so it makes sense that it is happening when you are trying to load a game. It is caused when there is an invalid file key in the installation that has no reference in the file table. This will cause an installation to fail until the registry problem is fixed.

Manually Fixing the Registry

There are ways to find the problem in the registry and delete it, but I’m not going to outline it for you here. The registry can be a tricky thing and changing anything in it should only be handled by someone who is very tech savvy. An incorrect modification of the registry can lead to much bigger and more permanent problems.

Download a Registry Cleaner

The best way to fix registry errors is by using a reliable registry cleaner. Two of the best are RegCure and Registry Mechanic. These programs will analyze and fix your registry either automatically, or with manual controls, scan for invalid shortcuts and check for invalid path or files. Most programs come with a free scan and a trial program so that you can see what they can do for you.

Run Antivirus Software

The best way to avoid registry errors is to regularly update your operating system and run antivirus software. We have a good review of antivirus software on our site here if you are looking to get additional protection. I always recommend running more than one program to increase your chances of catching any bad stuff that comes your way.

Follow the steps above, fix your registry, and then make sure you keep your computer free of malware and you shouldn’t have any more problems with your downloads. Even if you don’t want to continue to try and download this particular game, I would suggest taking these actions, as a registry error indicates that there may be other problems with your system.

Kat DelongThere are a few things you can do to try to get Yahoo Pogo games working again. Try each of these things in order and we’ll see if we can get you back on.

Check for Trojans

You may have a problem with malware. Make sure that you are running good malware programs such as Spybot Search and Destroy, Antivirus Plus and Ad-Aware. If you are looking for a review of antivirus software, there is a good article on our site. It is always a good idea to run more than one program to increase your chances of catching everything that comes through.

Clear Your Cache

If your cache is full, it will sometimes stop you from playing Yahoo games. In Windows Explorer go to Tools Settings and delete the browsing history, the cookies and site visits. Once the cache is empty, you may be able to play games.

Adjust Your Privacy Settings

The problem may be coming from your Java download. If you have Java, you can make sure that your computer is allowing it by checking your privacy settings. Go to Start and then Control Panel. Choose Internet Options and then click on Privacy. Choose Add Sun Microsystems to the list. Click Ok.

Reinstall Java

If Yahoo games aren’t working right, chances are there is something wrong with the Java program you are using. If you need to check which version you are running, click on the link to Java test . This will automatically analyze which version you are running and give you information about it on your system. If you need to upgrade, go to Java download and install it on your machine. If it is showing that you have Java downloaded but you are still having problems, you might want to uninstall Java and then go to the website and do a clean download. Do this by going to Start and then Control Panel. Click on Add/Remove Programs. Find the Java program, delete it and then download a new version.

If you’ve reinstalled Java and it still isn’t working, we may need more information. Are you getting any error messages when you try to play? Are you seeing the website or are the games refusing to load? Hopefully, these fixes will have you up and playing. If not, let us know and we can try to help you further.

Kat DelongThe good news is that this is totally normal. The bad news is that there isn’t much you can do about it. Gaming puts stress on the computer so it gets warmer internally and the fan runs faster to cool it. Anything running videos or graphics is likely to cause the computer to heat up. The loud sound you hear is the fan running at top speed - annoying but effective.

Adjust the Fan Speed

If the sound is really annoying, there are things you can do to adjust the fan speed, although I wouldn’t recommend them. I’m going to tell you about these simply as information not as something I think you should do. In my opinion, the fans are running for a reason and slowing them down may make your computer overheat and cause big problems. One program out there is RivaTuner. Many gamers say that they adjust the fan speeds down below the manufacturer’s preset speeds with no problem. This will make the fans run slower and therefore quieter, but again, I don’t recommend this solution.

Check the Temp

You can monitor your computer’s internal temperature in BIOS or download a program that will let you easily see the information. Two to try are Speedfan and Motherboard Monitor. There are two main problems with this however - there is no recommended ‘safe’ temperature and most likely it’s going to tell you that the computer is running hot, which you already know. You can find out some temperature recommendations by finding out what your CPU type is and then looking at this chart on Technibble.

Cool it Down

There are a few easy things you can do to cool down the computer. If you’re not comfortable taking the case off, then see if you can find a friend to do it for you. You need to take the outer case off and blow compressed air at the fans, heatsinks and power supply. Accumulated dust and dirt can make the fans work harder than they should. Make sure that the vents aren’t blocked by something so that the hot air has a place to go. Some techs also advise setting up a desk fan to pull more hot air out of the PC, but then you have to deal with that noise as well, so it pretty well defeats the purpose.

The bottom line is that excessive fan noise is normal with heavy gaming. If your computer starts to act up or does not cool down after a period of rest, then you may have an overheating problem and you need to deal with that separately. In the meantime, a noisy fan is just a signal that the system is working as it should.

Kat DelongA 2229 error signals that your computer has missing file systems or broken registry structures. Getting this error message is an important sign of an unstable system. You’re probably seeing it with Java related programs because it can mean that there is an installation error involving Windows Installer Service. Are you using a wireless system? A 2229 error can mean that a wireless link is dropping out when you are using Windows Installer. Windows can’t handle the errors so that the installation can continue.

Some techs advise downloading the Windows Service Pack 3 as a fix for 2229 errors. If the error is simply with the Windows Installer Service, then this might work for you and you won’t have to go any further or spend any more money.

In my opinion, the 2229 error you’re seeing is a registry error, particularly in light of the recent memory dump, and I’m guessing that you have problems with more than just the Installer Service. It is not specific to Runescape, but rather signals that your problems lie within your computer.

There are ways to get into the registry and manually locate and delete files, but this is something that should only be handled by a competent computer technician. Deleting the wrong thing in your registry can lead to many more problems and could result in an unrecoverable loss of data.

RegCure will fix registry errors such as this one and you can run a free scan from the website that will show you what problems you are having with your computer. It might be a good idea to run the free download and see if it discovers these kinds of registry errors if you are uncomfortable about paying for it first. The program will allow you to either scan and fix problems automatically, or give you the option of manually guiding the process, depending on how much control you want over the process.

Because error 2229 is a registry error, RegCure is a good solution. It may seem that $40 is a lot of money, but it is nothing compared to the cost of recovering lost data and rebuilding a machine - not to mention the cost of losing files that are irreplaceable.

Kat DelongIt is difficult to determine where the problem lies without more information. For example, are you attempting to download the product, or do you have a CD ROM installation? You say you have a download from Encore - is that an update, or the game itself? What is happening when you try to run the Hoyle program? What system are you using? Hoyle Card Games do not support Windows XP or Vista 64-bit versions, so you must run them on a 32-bit system.

Clean Install

I can point you in a few directions here. The first thing to do is to make sure you are doing a “clean” install. You need to prepare the system for installing from a CD so that it will run properly.

1. Click on Start, then Run.

2. Type in msconfig when you see the dialog box. Click OK.

3. Click the Startup tab.

4. Write down all of the startup items that have a check mark in front of them.

5. Uncheck everything that is marked. Choose Apply and click Ok.

6. You will be prompted to restart the computer. Choose Yes.

7. Log on as Administrator. Close any antivirus programs that you have running. Some antivirus software will cause the program to load incorrectly.

8. Install the CD for the Hoyle program in the drive. It should launch the installation screens on its own.

9. After the program installs, follow the msconfig steps above and recheck each item in Startup as it was when you started.

10. Make sure you restart your antivirus protection.

Update Your Drivers

In order for the card games to run, you need to make sure you have your drivers updated for your video cards, sound cards and DVD drives. You can get Microsoft driver information by clicking on the link. You can also use a program like Driver Detective to find and update your system drivers.

If you have followed this advice and still can’t use your program, contact Encore technical support via email to see if they can give you more specific fixes for your problem. We’d be glad to help you further if you will provide some additional information on the exact nature of the problem.

Susan KeenanIn order to play most games that are downloaded from the Internet, one needs to have Macromedia Flash or Java installed on your computer. It depends on the game that you are downloading and attempting to play. Of course, other considerations might come into play such as operating systems, graphics cards, and memory.

Why Doesn’t the Arcade Game Play?

In order for most games to run properly, they must be installed completely, the computer must have certain applications installed, and the proper software must be installed as well. The reason that the Bagman arcade game is not playing properly for you is the simple fact that it is not strictly a legal download. This game was created by a French company and has been licensed to Stern. If the game were legally downloaded, it should have come with directions on how to get it to work.

Game Emulators

In order to play the majority of arcade games available on the Web today, you need to obtain a game emulator that will translate the game into playable mode. An emulator is a software application that is designed for specific types of games. It enables users to play games on the computer that were originally designed for other types of equipment.

JAE or the Java Arcade Emulator

The Java Arcade Emulator was designed in the late 1990s. It is designed to allow emulated games such as Bagman to play using Java-capable browsers.

Legality

In general, many of the arcade games that are available for download on the Internet are actually protected by copyright. Just because they are readily available does not mean that it is legal or ethical to download these games without purchasing them from the copyrighted owners. Some games are available for legal downloads. Technically, if you own a legal copy of the original game, you can sometimes download a legal copy from the Internet as well.
