Maximize Pogo Game Window

Hi, my Pogo game room will not open to full size. Can you help me please?Susan Keenan

Pogo and Full Size

Pogo actually did away with their “Maximize” button on many of their online games. There were issues involved because Java games (which are what Pogo games are) do not expand in a manner that fits them to the size of your monitor screen. Even the little arrows that you could use are missing from most games.

Full Size Pogo: Change Screen Resolution

Sometimes, it is possible to change the viewing size of a game by changing the screen resolution on the computer. Before you do so, you should check your video card and monitor documentation to see if they will support changes to the screen resolution settings. Plus, this fix doesn’t always work for all types of online games or certain computers.

To change the screen resolution on a PC, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to and click on “Start.”
  • Select “Settings.”
  • Select “Control Panel” from the options.
  • Double click on “Display.”
  • Look for the “Settings” tab. Adjust the slider bar.
  • Select “Apply.”

To change the screen resolution on a Mac, follow these steps:

  • Open the “Apple” menu that is located in the upper left-hand corner.
  • Select “Control Panels.”
  • Select the option “Monitors and Sound.”
  • Select the option “Monitor.”

Full Size Pogo: Windows Taskbar

It might be possible to adjust the viewing area to a larger one by making a change to the Windows Taskbar. This will gain you only a small amount of screen space and may not be desirable for users who rely on the Taskbar. If you want to try it, follow these directions to complete the task:

  • Navigate to and right click on “Start” in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
  • Select “Properties” from the menu choices that appear.
  • Select the “Task Bar” option.
  • Fill in and check off the box in front of “Auto-hide the Taskbar.” This will hide the Taskbar so that it does not appear except when you hold the cursor on it.  When you want the taskbar to reappear, place the cursor over the area where the taskbar would normally be.

Full Size Pogo: AOL Settings

If you use AOL services, playing around with the settings a bit might prove helpful in getting full screen Pogo viewing. Follow these steps:

  • Click on Keyword Preferences
  • Click on the “Essentials” tab in the window that appears.
  • Click on “Toolbar” or “Toolbar and Sound,” depending on what shows.
  • Click on “Text Only.”
  • Click on “OK.”
  • Move your gaming window until you can see the parts of it that you want visible.

Universal Hot Key

The universal hot key that allows computer users to maximize their game play with a full screen has typically been the “F4″ key. You can try to use this to create full size pogo viewing, but there’s no guarantee that this will work either as so much depends on the individual game you are playing.

Running Sims 3 from External Drive

A friend loaded Sims 3 on an external hard drive. I have no idea how to load it on the computer he said something about a virtual CD. Please help.Susan Keenan

Okay, sounds like you need some basic information to understand what’s going on here. I’ll go over just exactly what a virtual CD is, why you might need one, and how you can use one.

What is Sims 3?

Sims 3 is the third version of the original Sims game. This video game offers life simulation play in a fun and enjoyable setting. As a player you get to control a family and its family members’ lives in every aspect from the house they live in to the jobs they have and more.

Make sure your registry isnt corrupted, loads of problems with running Sims 3 and other online games are caused by missing, corrupt, duplicates or empty file references. Heres a free 2 min registry scanner to check for problems

What is a Virtual CD?

A virtual CD is one that can be used in place of a physical CD on a computer. Generally, people like to create virtual CDs of their physical disks so that they can use them on more than one computer, laptop, notebook, or netbook without the need to purchase a portable CD drive if they don’t have one. Virtual CDs are image formats of the physical disks and are often referred to as ISO files.

Opening a Virtual CD

Physical CDs and virtual CDs contain the same basic information on them. The difference is that you cannot simply open a virtual CD because you want to use it. In the same way that you need a particular type of program to open a DVD, pictures, documents, Zip files, etc, you also need a particular type of program to open a virtual CD.

How to Run Sims 3 from External Drive

Running Sims 3 from an external drive means that you have a virtual CD and need a special application or utility to open it. Basically, you need a player that will act like a CD drive so that you can open the ISO file of Sims 3 that you have. Since you don’t have the physical CD, you need to trick the computer with the tool or player to think the CD is in the CD drive (even though it isn’t.)

You will still need to install Sims 3 after you download it to your hard drive. Therefore, you need to make sure that you have enough memory on the machine (netbook, laptop, etc) that you are using to play Sims 3.

Tools to Open a Virtual CD

In order to open a virtual CD, you need to download an optical media emulator.

Turning Point Fall of Liberty Errors

I can’t get Turning Point Fall of Liberty to work?Susan Keenan

Is this a new installation or a game that you have previously been able to play? Are you playing it on a PC or a gaming console? I’ll offer a few suggestions for commonplace errors that occur when working with Turning Point Fall of Liberty on a PC. If you are using one of the other versions, please write back and let me know.

What is Turning Point Fall of Liberty?

Turning Point Fall of Liberty is a game that has been designed for play with Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows-based computers. The game is set before World War II and offers an alternative path for the world to follow since Winston Churchill dies much earlier in the game than he did in real life. The actual game play involves a lot of shooting action. This video game is rated “T” due to violence.

Turning Point Fall of Liberty Error: Faulty Installation

If Turning Point Fall of Liberty isn’t installed properly, then you need to reinstall it. One way that you can tell if the game is installed correctly is whether or not your computer has a dedicated folder for it. If you weren’t prompted to create a folder, then it did not install correctly and you need to do it over.

Turning Point Fall of Liberty Error: Minimum System Requirements

If this is the first time that you are trying to play Turning Point Fall of Liberty or if you haven’t updated your system in a while, take the time to check out what the minimum system requirements are for it:

  • Windows XP or Vista
  • 1.0 GB of RAM
  • 7.0 GB hard drive space
  • DirectX 9 compatible sound card
  • Compatible graphics card: either Radeon X1300 or GeForce 6600
  • Pentium 2.8 GHz or an Athlon XP 2800+ CPU

If you don’t match the minimum requirements, then the game will not run properly. Upgrade any of the system requirements that do not match the above specs. In particular, if your video card or available memory do not at least match the minimum requirements for the game, you will continue to get errors trying to play it.

Turning Point Fall of Liberty Error: Drivers

If you haven’t updated your drivers for a while, take the time to do so. Hardware manufacturers regularly update their devices to support new technologies. It’s possible an update to your graphics card will improve functionality with the game. Additionally, you can access the “Device Manager” and check for any problems with your devices. Follow any troubleshooting advice that is offered.

If you’re getting a specific error message when trying to play Turning Point, let us know and we’ll be better able to troubleshoot this problem.

Gaming Causes PC to Hibernate

I just installed a NVIDIA GE Force 9800 GTX in my system along with a 730 w power supply. Everything runs fine until I get in a game. I was playing Battlefield 2, and the monitor went into power save mode at random. It did this every time I played the game, with no pattern that I could follow. The computer isn’t shutting down, just acting like it’s hibernating. Any ideas on how to fix it?Kat Delong

It could be something as simple as a settings issue or as complex as an overheating problem. Let’s troubleshoot this from the easiest to the more difficult solutions.

Monitor Settings

It’s possible that when you are gaming your system is putting it in Power Save mode. Have you checked your monitor settings? Go to a blank spot on your desktop and right click on it. Choose Properties. Now under Screen Saver on the bottom, find Monitor Settings and choose Power. You can check several of the tabs and make sure that your monitor is not set to hibernate under any of the power situations.

Refresh Rate

If you are still getting into power save after you’ve adjusted the settings, then we need to look at other possibilities. You can check the refresh rate on your video card by going into Control Panel and then Display. Click on Settings and then Advanced. Choose Adapter and set the refresh rate to 60 hz.

Drivers

Since you’ve just installed the card, I’m assuming that you have the latest drivers installed, but I have to point this out. Many times, updating the drivers for the video card, or monitor if you have one, will stop the system from powering down while gaming.

Overheating

It’s possible that the new card or new activity is causing your system to overheat. You can monitor what is going on in your computer by downloading a program such as Everest diagnostic software. This can help pinpoint if you are having a problem with internal heat. You can check around your computer to make sure that you are giving it the best possible airflow - nothing is blocking the vents, it isn’t sitting on a soft surface, and there is adequate airflow both above and below the machine. Make sure the room is cool enough and that it is not sitting in the sun.

You can clean the dust off the vents to improve flow - if this was an older card, I’d recommend taking the card out and making sure there is not dust on that as well. If the card is causing overheating, you can get a fan that goes directly into a PCI slot that will fan the video card directly.

Because this is only a problem with gaming, I’m guessing that you probably have a driver or heat issue. If you need any additional help, please let us know. Include any error messages that you may be receiving so that we can pinpoint the problem.

Installing Sims 3 for Mac

I just bought the Sims 3 for Mac; both EA and Apple tech support are closed, so I thought I’d try here. The game will not install; I bought Leopard (10.5.6) and got the update (10.5.7) to meet system requirements, but I get an X over the install icon and an error saying “the architecture is not supported.” EA tech support said that there was some patch I must be missing. What could it be?Kat Delong

I’m glad you decided to ask us here at Filetonic. I hope the information I found can help you solve this problem even if EA and Apple don’t offer solutions that will help at this point.

If misery loves company, then you must be feeling pretty good right now. A quick look around found a lot of Mac users who are having trouble installing and running Sims 3, but some people have proposed workaround solutions that have worked for them.

Sims 3 Requirements for Mac

First off, are you sure you meet all of the requirements? You do need Leopard 10.5.7, so it was a good move to get that. You also need 2GB of RAM and 6.1 GB free hard drive space and at least 1GB of additional space so that you can save games and have space for customizations. Sims 3 won’t run on systems that are using Power PC processors or Intel GMA 950 class of integrated cards. If you have all of the right components and you still can use Sims 3, then look below and see if any of this applies.

Rename

One user says that he had success by simply renaming the Sims 3 folder as well as the application. He inserted “_” into the name (without the quote marks) and was able to launch the program.

Workaround

It is also suspected that there is something missing in the Sims 3.app folder structure that is stopping the program from running. Try this workaround. Go to Applications and find “The Sims 3″. Right click on it and select Show Package Contents. From here, you should be able to go to Contents and MacOS. Double click on “cider”. A Terminal.app window should open and launch the game from here. Apparently this is the only way around the problem at the moment until the publisher of the game issues a fix.

This is such a new launch that there are bound to be issues, but I can see how frustrating this would be for you. I hope that one of these tips is your “aha” moment and you can install and play the game. Let us know how it goes, and if EA or Apple offered any other ideas.

Troubleshooting Ogre Gltexture Error

When I installed a game it comes up on my computer as “ogre gltexture” but I cannot play it. It’s a 3D game.

About OGRE

Kate Dubensky
OGRE - or Object-Oriented Graphics Rendering Engine - is a rendering engine used in 3D gaming. The program is written in C++, in order to make is an easier and more obvious system for game developers to use complicated 3D graphics. So, in the case of your gaming installation error, without knowing the game that you are trying to install, I would say that you probably have an error affecting the OGRE engine that underpins the game.

Update your Operating System

OGRE is multiplatform, which means that it should work with the same quality on Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, so the wrong operating system is not likely the source of the problem. However, the advanced graphics offered by OGRE might necessitate the latest version of your software. You can start by updating your Windows operating system using Windows Update. You should get all available updates to make sure that your computer has the latest driver releases and other components it might need to support the game.

Check your Graphics Card

It is more likely that your graphics card needs updating. The game you are trying to install probably includes details about the minimum requirements that your computer system needs to meet to be able to support the game. You should review these requirements and make sure that your system is adequate.

Use Device Manager to View Graphics Card Details

In the meantime, you can update your graphics card drivers and hope that is enough to play the game. First, you need to know what kind of graphics card you have installed.

  1. Right click My Compute, then choose Manage
  2. Click Device Manager
  3. Scroll through and find the listing for your graphics card - click the +s to expand the sections
  4. Click twice on the graphic card listing to open the details
  5. Right click the graphic card listing and choose Properties
  6. Click the Driver tab, then choose Driver Details

Update Graphics Card Drivers

If you are using the graphics card that came built in to your computer, you can also use Device Manager to update the card drivers.

  1. Click twice on the type of device listing
  2. Right click the graphics card
  3. Choose Update Driver and the Hardware Update wizard will open
  4. Follow the instructions offered

If you have installed a different graphics card, use the first steps to learn the card name and details, then go to the manufacturer’s website and look for new driver releases. Good luck!
