Facebook won't display properly on any of my browsers today [safari 5, google chrome 10.0.648.151, firefox 4, IE 8]. every other site i enter seems to work fine but facebook. i've tried all day clearing my cache but nothing's changed. what can be done to fix this?Susan Keenan

The simple fact that you can properly view other websites is indicative of the fact that the problem is specific to the Facebook website. While it is an annoying problem, there's actually very little that you can do about it.

Other social networking sites experience similar issues. In particular, Twitter notifies users that their website is over capacity during high traffic times of the day or night. When this happens, users cannot view their Twitter home page. However, this issue is usually short lived with Twitter and resolves itself quickly.

According to Facebook sources, there are more than 500 million people actively using Facebook. Many of these individuals log in every single day - more than half of them in fact. This means that at any given moment of the day, people are logging into their account, poking, writing on someone's wall, or viewing the pages of their Facebook friends.

Facebook Issues Due to Usage

The most common reason behind display issues with Facebook is the simple fact that millions of people are using this website at any given time. Unfortunately, this leads to temporary crashes or the inability of some users to view the website. The best way to resolve this issue is to wait and come back later. As much as the answer I have isn't going to be a popular one, you just have to give it some time. Many of the Facebook users I know experience this problem from time to time.

Improving Your Chances of Viewing a Proper Display of Facebook

In general, the times when Facebook breaks down temporarily for users is typically linked to high traffic hours. One of the strategies that you can use to see if this is true is to monitor the hours of the day as well as the specific days that you experience the problem of Facebook not displaying properly. If you discover that your issue coincides with the following information, try to log on earlier or later in the day.

I've found that the hours immediately after the local schools dismiss their students for the day is often problematic leading to issues with slower response times for browsing as well as logging into social networking sites. These problems also seem to occur after the dinner hour, when more Internet users go online.

If you can track your problem with Facebook's display to high traffic times of the day, then you know that the best option for you it to begin using your Facebook during off-peak hours.
