Can i reinstall standard XP over the CE Windows format? If so how? Kate Dubensky

Replacing Windows CE with Windows XP

Technically, you can replace a Windows operating system with a later version without a problem. However, Windows CE - also called Windows Embedded Compact - was designed for small, simple computer models and devices that run embedded operating systems, like PDSa and cell phones. Rather than a smaller or streamlined version of regular Windows operating systems for PCs, Windows CE is a completely different program, with a distinct kernel and OS format.

About System Requirements

For this reason, it is most likely that the computer or device that you have currently programmed with Windows CE is too small to support a larger operating system. To figure out whether or not you can install Windows XP on your computer, you have to check the system requirements for XP. These requirements outline the minimum system conditions that are necessary to install and run the program. For Windows XP the minimum requirements are as follows:

Windows XP System Requirements

● Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)

● At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)

● At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk

● CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive

● Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device

● Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution

● Sound card

● Speakers or headphones

If your computer doesn't meet these specifications, then it is unlikely that you will be able to install XP on your unit. Without knowing more about your system and the device you want to format, it is tough to know much more than this. If you want more particular information, you can write again and provide some details about your computer or device - including the make and model - and we can take it from there. I hope this information is helpful! Good luck.
