I am trying to open a .cwk file from a flash drive on Windows 7. I've downloaded this program and then went on to change the settings to open with Adobe and it is still not working. Please advise if you have another solution. 
It sounds as though you have obtained a third party conversion program to open the file. Follow the suggestions in the first option first. It is listed after the explanation of .cwk files. If none of them work, you can always try one of the other suggestions to open your .cwk files.
What is file extension .cwk?
Files with extension .cwk are usually data files created with AppleWorks Productivity Suite, a Macintosh program or ClarisWorks, another Macintosh program. Both of these applications are available in Windows versions. A .cwk file can be a spreadsheet, word processing document, presentation, or drawing.
Troubleshooting Methods to Open CWK Files
If the application that you downloaded gave you the option to open the .cwk file with Adobe, then one of two things is most likely the problem. First, the file cannot be opened with the Adobe program, or second, you need to update your Adobe application. It is possible that the program you have is intended to allow you to view the .cwk file, but until you figure out what is wrong, it won't be able to. Try these suggestions:
- Update your Adobe application.
- Reinstall the program that you downloaded for this purpose.
- Try a different option for opening the .cwk file from the options given.
- Uninstall the program and download a different one.
How to Open CWK Files: Third Party Converters

If you download and install a third party conversion program such as "Conversions Plus" or "DocXConverter," you should be able to open .cwk files easily. There are also a number of conversion programs that offer a free trial period. Simply conduct a search and choose the third party conversion program that meets your needs.
How to Open CWK Files: Convert the File
You can open the .cwk file, select "Save As" and then convert the file extension to .rtf or .doc extension. Save the file and close it. Now open the file in Word. This should allow you to open the .cwk file on the Windows computer.
Your other option is to open it in Microsoft Word and follow this path:
Select File> Open and then select "all files or recover text from any file" in the "files of type" drop down menu. You will lose any formatting if you try this solution, but the text will be there.
How to Open CWK Files: Apple Software
If you have either AppleWorks Productivity Suite or ClarisWorks in a Windows version, you should be able to open the file using the program.
