Common Java Installation Issues

I am having a problem with Java. I have read all the Java files and still help is not found. I downloaded it and made sure it was enabled for my browser. I downloaded the latest one. I uninstalled and then reinstalled it.Kat Delong

Are you getting error messages when you are downloading or attempting to download the Java application? If you are, let us know what the program is saying when you are trying to use it.

I’m going to advise you to do a complete uninstall of the Java programs that may be partially installed on your system and then do a regular Java download or manual Java download and then install it on your system offline. The manual download and separate install is a good solution if you are having problems with connectivity - if your Internet is slow or gets timed out before the installation is complete.

Show Hidden Files

It’s possible that you are only partially deleting the Java files because you can’t see all of them. Make sure that everything is visible by going to My Computer and then choosing Tools. Click on Folder Options and then the View tab. Click on Show Hidden Files and Folders and then Apply. This will allow you to see everything that is on your computer if you want to use Add/Remove options.

Windows Uninstaller

Once you’ve removed the programs you can see, go ahead and use the Windows Uninstaller Cleanup Utility to remove any partially downloaded programs from your machine. Download the uninstaller from Microsoft and let it run. After using this program, if you want to be even more sure that you don’t have anything left on the system, you can run a program like Regcure,or CC Cleaner. These should remove any traces of Java from your computer.

Once your computer is sparkling clean, go to the website and get the newest Java download. If you are possibly having Internet issues that are interrupting the download, you can get the manual  Java  download, put it on your desktop and download it offline. You will see a dialog box when you click on the download. Save this file to a known location on your desktop. If you get a message that the program is already installed and asks if you want to remove it (after all you’ve gone through I hope you don’t get this), say Yes. The file size should be about 15MB. Close all open applications and then double click on the saved file icon to install the program.

Hopefully, thoroughly cleaning your system and doing a completely new download will do the trick. Let us know if you are getting specific error messages and we can try to help you further.
