I am trying to install my HP printer onto my HP laptop. I have misplaced the disk and this specific one is not listed on the Add Printer list. I need to know which selection I can choose that will be compatible with my HP Deskjet D4160 printer.
Luckily, HP products have a lot of support on the HP website, including software updates and printer drivers for all operating systems and almost all products that are still in use today. There are two ways to do it, and one is only slightly more complicated than the other.

If you have your printer connected to your laptop directly with a USB or cable, then you can use the automated tool that HP provides to automatically scan your system and determine if you need an update to your driver or a complete software installation. All you have to do is go to the HP Software and Driver Home Page and if you have the right connection, you can click on Check at the top of the page. The automated tool should do the rest and download what your system needs. If you are working with your printer wirelessly, then you need to download the software and driver manually.

If you are working wirelessly, then all you need to do is go to the HP Software and Driver download page. You will be asked to select your operating system which will take you to the next page. Here you will select the driver and/or software package that you need to update your system and install your printer. Follow the instructions after choosing your software and it should be no problem selecting the printer and getting it running.
