Entering text in card templates

I’m using Works 8 and find it impossible to type text onto a half-fold card so that it will print out correctly. Any suggestions?

Kat DelongMicrosoft Works 8 comes with over 40 templates for greeting cards loaded onto it. You can make cards for holidays, birthdays and even customize your designs using blank templates. Without knowing exactly what the problem is for you, I’m going to walk you through the process and see if that helps solve the issue.

Works Card Templates

In order to make cards in Microsoft Works, you need to open the task launcher. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start and choose All Programs.
  2. Find Microsoft Works and put the cursor over the program.
  3. Find Task Launcher in the menu that expands. You will see a Templates button at the top of the Task Launcher.
  4. Click on the Templates button and you will see a list of options to the left.
  5. Click Cards and Crafts which will open the cards on the right side of the window.
  6. Click on the card category you want and you will see the designs that are available for that category.
  7. You can see a larger version of the design by clicking on the thumbnail pictures.
  8. Click Use This Style when you’ve found the card design you want to use.
  9. You will see the card in a new window. Now you can add text and customize your card.
  10. When you have the card the way you want it, go to File and then Print to print it out on either paper or card stock that you have loaded in your printer.

If you don’t like the designs that come preloaded onto your computer, you can go to the web and find additional Microsoft Works templates that have updated cards and designs for every holiday.

Make Your Own

Many of the greeting card templates come as quarter-fold cards. If you want a card on a larger piece of paper, you can always make your own with a little trial and error. First, go to File and then Page Setup and change the paper orientation from Portrait to Landscape. Find clip art online or use your own art for the design and cut and paste it onto the right hand side of the paper. Next, scroll down until you have a second page. On the right hand side of that page, write the text that you want to appear inside your card. Now, print the first page only. You will get a piece of paper with the art on the right hand side. Flip the paper over and insert it back into the printer and print the second page only. This should position your text on the right hand, inside of the card. If you flipped it over and inserted it in the printer the wrong way, note the orientation and try again until you get the picture and text where you want them. Fold in half and enjoy!
