Installing Java
Remove all Previous Java Versions
The best way to begin to troubleshoot a Java error is to completely remove any and all previous Java installations. Java isn’t very good at distinguishing new from old and previous versions can definitely interfere with your attempt to get a new version up and running. You can use Windows Add/Remove to clear out all your old files.
To do this, open your Start Menu, choose Settings, then choose the Control Panel, then All Programs and then find all the Java files, click on them and select Remove. Once you have removed the remaining files, it is a good idea to run a registry scan to clean up any leftover bits of data on your system that can jam things up and slow your processes down.
Microsoft Installer CleanUp Tool
There is also a Microsoft Installer CleanUp Utility that will resolve any issues related to incomplete uninstalls. If there are still Java files showing up after you use Add/Remove, try running this tool to clean things up.
Java Error 25099
Once you have a clean slate, you can deal with Java error 25099, which is a known InstallShield error that means that your installation attempt has failed. While Java is aware of this error, its exact cause has not been determined. In the event of this error, the suggested solution offered by Java is to download and install the offline version.
Download the Offline Java Installation
The offline download won’t be affected by Internet connection problems or other possible causes of download errors. You can download the offline version on the Java Manual Downloads webpage. On this page, choose the appropriate version for your operating system and then follow the prompts to choose a location to save the folder, most often the desktop, and then save the download. Continue to follow the prompts to complete the download.
Install and Test your Java Download
Next, close all of your open pages and applications, including your Internet browser. Now find the Java icon on the desktop and click it twice to initiate the installation. You will be offered a license agreement, which you must accept to continue. Continue to make your adjustments and click Next to proceed through the pages until you reach the conclusion. Once you finish the download, you can test that it is working properly with this Java Test Tool.
