Intellipoint error

I can turn on my computer, everything comes on but won’t work. I get a box saying Microsoft Intellipoint needs to close down: appname point 32.exe. I can not close this down.

Kat DelongThis error code is indicating that you have a problem with your registry that is required to run the Microsoft Intellipoint mouse and special keyboard keys. This is a program that must run at startup, and the error is what is preventing your computer from starting.

Registry Cure

Can you access the Internet? From your post, I'm not sure. You probably won't be able to use your mouse, but if you can get to the Internet, the best thing to do is download a program such as RegCure. This program will inspect the registry and fix any registry error. Upon restarting after downloading the program, your exe error should have disappeared.

Roll the System Back

If nothing is truly working on your computer, it gets a little more difficult. Start your computer and immediately press F8 (or F1 or F2 depending on your computer) to get into Safe Mode. You can do a couple of things from here. You can choose "Last Good Configuration" to get the system to roll back to a point where it was working. You may have to reinstall anything that has been installed lately after this runs. You can also do a System Restore to bring the computer back to a particular point where it was working well. In Safe Mode, when you see the dialog box, type in %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe. This will allow you to pick a restore point and roll the system back to that date.

Do a Windows Repair

If using System Restore or Last Good Configuration doesn't work, then you need to use a Window's repair disk to repair the registry errors. To do this, you will need the original Windows Repair disk that came with your system. If you have an OEM computer where the computer came with Windows already loaded and it didn't come with a repair disk, you need to contact the manufacturer or look on the Internet for a repair disk that you can use for your computer. Once you have the disk, you may need to get BIOS to boot from the disk first.

  1. Get into BIOS by starting the computer and press DEL or F2 - look for the right key as it boots, to get into BIOS.
  2. You will enter the Setup Utility. Look for something that will let you change the boot order. It may be called Boot Options, Boot Order or it may be located within Advanced Options - every computer BIOS is a little different.
  3. Follow the directions to change the boot order so that it boots from CD first.

Once the system will look to the CD first, insert the Repair disk and follow the directions. Ideally, it should leave your programs and data intact.

Hopefully, one of the solutions will work for you. Once you have your system up and running, you should go to the internet and run a program like RegCure to find and repair any registry errors. Some exe errors can be caused by viruses, so make sure your malware protection is up to date and run it as soon as possible.
