Avira offers a personal and premium edition of the Antivir product. The personal version is offered for free and is intended for personal, non-commercial use only. This is a basic antivirus program with limited features. The premium version of Antivir adds numerous features to better secure computers from harm.
Features
Antivir Personal protects computers from viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkits, autodialers, and Phishing scams. It is a basic system that features a clean, easy-to-use interface. However, limits do apply. First, it is intended for personal use only. Second, its protections are limited and it does not protect against spyware.
The Premium edition of Antivir is better suited for computer users how want complete protection and for those who use their computer for commercial purposes. Among its added features are protection from spyware, adware, malicious websites, driveby downloads, and enhanced e-mail controls. Antivir Premium also adds fast updates and a rescue system for creating a bootable CD.
Antivir Professional is much like Antivir Premium only it adds network compatibility, Linux and Solaris support, and includes 14 days of technical support.
For those who want even more protection, Avira’s Antivir Premium Security Suite adds a firewall, anti-spam filters, Game Mode, anti-bot system, and a backup system for saving critical data files.

How it works
Avira’s free personal edition of Antivir is available for free on Avira’s Web site to personal home users only. All other editions are licensed through yearly subscriptions and come in single or multiple user licenses.
Recommendations
If you need basic anti-virus protection, the free version of Antivir is a good first step but it won’t protect you from all of the threats out there such as spyware. The premium edition is a better choice for home users who use the Internet regularly. Business users have an entire menu of options from which to choose depending on their size and security needs.
