The .ini file is a simple text file that contains the configuration information used by an application. Many applications will have a specific .ini file. Today, not all applications have .ini files since they have been replaced with those in the registry.

The .ini file is used by the Windows operating system to save information that is related to the operating environment and set preferences. Each .ini file can contain one or more sections. The "ini" is used to refer to initialization.

Solving the pinot.ini error

Without knowing more details about your computer and its operating system, I am going to offer a few basic suggestions that should help. The first strategy is to uninstall the software that is using this file. Most likely, this is related to your monitor or the My Display software, more specifically, the driver software from HP. This software is included on the CD that comes with LCD monitors. If you recently added a monitor or some type of software, uninstall it and see if that helps.

Before reinstalling any monitor software, upgrade the drivers for your computer's graphics card. Then, try reinstalling the software.

If you have Windows Vista, you can use the Windows update to install drivers for the monitor and this should resolve the issue. Simply uninstall the software from the monitor CD, shut down, reboot, and see if Windows will either locate the drivers automatically or visit their website for the update.
