Web Design Tips to Improve Conversion Rates

So, you’ve got the website, the ppc ad campaign, the link exchange, and you’re submitting articles like crazy.  Your internet business should be booming, right? I hope so.  But like many others, you may have the problem of drawing lots of traffic, but not making many sales.  People are coming to your site, but they aren’t converting into customers.  If this is the case with your website, here are few web design solutions to consider.

Forget the Technicolor

With a million different layouts, colors and pictures to choose from, it is SO tempting to create a website that overloads the senses of your readers.  In reality, the easiest type of web page to read is black text on a white background.  Because it’s difficult to spend long hours reading from a computer screen, your visitors will become discouraged when they have to read in weird colors or with a dark background.  They grow tired of the extra effort and click away without even realizing why they are doing so.  It sounds boring, but one of the best way to keep visitors reading your webpage is to keep the colors simple and unmemorable.

The Clock is Ticking

Another issue with web page design has to do with the amount of time it takes for your hope page to load when a visitor arrives.  Most people have high-speed internet these days, but if you are using video, detailed graphics and other tools, your web page can still be too slow for new visitors.

Try to keep your home page, at least the top portion, fairly simple.  Catch people’s attention with suspenseful headlines or appealing articles rather than graphics.  If you have a strong video that’s the main event on your home page, include a short summary of what the video contains, to whet your visitor’s appetite while waiting for it to load.

Now Where Did I Read That?

Keeping your website organized so it’s easy for visitors to get around will definitely improve your conversion rate.  Tell folks right away what your business is, how it is different, (and better), than the competition, and how you can solve their problems.  Don’t leave it up to the visitor to figure it out on her own.

Also, make sure visitors don’t have to dig to find your contact information or product details.  Keep a list of popular articles or reviews on your home page, and ALWAYS make sure it is easy to find out how to place an order.

Starting an internet business can be overwhelming, and trying to get a good search engine ranking can become an all consuming task.  However, by keeping a few simple web page design techniques in mind, you can make sure that visitors are willing to buy from you once they arrive.  Building a home page that’s easy to read, loads quickly, and gets right to the point will help your visitors turn into customers.
